Reading Hillary Rodham's hidden thesis (Quotes from Free Republic)
MSNBC ^ | 3/2/07 | Bill Dedman

Posted on 03/02/2007 5:01:02 AM PST by AZRepublican

WELLESLEY, Mass. — The senior thesis of Hillary D. Rodham, Wellesley College class of 1969, has been speculated about, spun, analyzed, debated, criticized and defended. But rarely has it been read, because for the eight years of Bill Clinton’s presidency it was locked away.

As forbidden fruit, the writings of a 21-year-old college senior, examining the tactics of radical community organizer Saul D. Alinsky, have gained mythic status among her critics — a “Rosetta Stone,” in the words of one, that would allow readers to decode the thinking of the former first lady and 2008 presidential candidate.

Despite the fervent interest in the thesis, few realize that it is no longer kept under lock and key. As MSNBC.com found, it is available to anyone who visits the archive room of the prestigious women’s college outside Boston. With Clinton’s opponents in the 2008 presidential race looking for the next “Swift Boat” attack ad, and the senator herself trying to cast off her liberal image, Clinton's 92-page thesis is certain to be read and reread by opposition researchers and reporters visiting the campus.

If Hillary can't be beaten with 2007 data, she can't be beaten, period

Absolutely agree. Probably most conservative Americans with degrees would cringe if we were required to defend our senior papers, masters theses or dissertations today. Heaven knows I sure would.

Those things are usually written to satisfy the ideological inclinations of the almost universally left wing faculty committees who will review them & for most people what we wrote then is in no way representative of who we are now.

So it makes the people who try to condemn her with it look to the rest of the country, at least to those folks who had to write them during their own academic careers, like they're unfairly grasping at straws b/c they have nothing better to get her on - when nothing could be further from the truth, there's plenty!

Its not that her senior thesis isn't mandatory reading for those of us who want to understand where's she's coming from (Hillary Care alone proves she, unlike us, is still very much in the thrall of socialist ideals TODAY), but any effective public strategy to minimize her support from the voters will have to come from what she's saying today & what she's done in office in the US Senate & in pseudo-office as co-president.

The exploitation of her thesis to try to cultivate sentiment against her with rank & file voters in 2007-08 carries the almost certain guarantee it will backfire.

>Wellesley has tried over the years to make it clear that hillary rodham's speech was NOT A VALEDICTORY.

Hillary was Valedictorian, she made one speech at graduation. ergo.....

But think this is only her written thesis. She speech at graduation was an extemporaneous ad homonym on Brooke (and the rest of then-current America.)

A copy of that speech might not exist, but those who were there said it was venomous.

No appointment is necessary for such spade work. A visitor to the Wellesley campus is buzzed in to the wood-paneled archives, but only after storing coat and briefcase in a locker outside. Pencils are allowed for note taking — no pens, which might mar the document. Readers can copy only a few pages.
The Wellesley archivist, Wilma R. Slaight, respectfully presents a photocopy of the typewritten manuscript in a black binder, cushioning it on green foam pads so as not to stress the leather.

Geez ... Hellary's Thesis has better security then our national intelligence documents that Sandy Berger destroyed

Congrats on becoming famous, Onyx!

"She's a Marxist. Saul Alinsky's student. I sure wish we could unearth that sealed thesis of hers that she wrote at Wellesley."

I plugged that exact quote, word for word into Google, and nothing came about, except a link to this article at MSNBC. So, I'm thinking whoever wrote this news article made that quote up.

Did you catch this irony in the article?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A decade later, another political science major started out on the path that Hillary Rodham had rejected, going to work for a group in the Alinsky mold.
That was Barack Obama, now a U.S. senator from Illinois and her leading opponent for the Democratic nomination.
After attending Columbia University, he worked as an organizer on the South Side of Chicago for the Developing Communities Project.
Obama and others of the post-Alinsky generation described their work in the 1990 book “After Alinsky: Community Organizing in Illinois,” in which Obama wrote that he longed for ways to close the gap between community organizing and national politics.
After three years of organizing, he turned to Harvard Law School and then the Illinois legislature.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He's got some 'splainin' to do.

Saul Alinsky is generally considered the father of community organizing. A criminologist by training, Alinsky in the 1930s organized the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago (made famous by Upton Sinclair's The Jungle). He went on to found the Industrial Areas Foundation while organizing the Woodlawn neighborhood, which trained organizers and assisted in the founding of community organizations around the country. In Rules for Radicals (his final work, published one year before his death), he addressed the 1960s generation of radicals, outlining his views on organizing for mass power.

Author of Reveille for Radicals, Alinsky encouraged controversy and conflict, often to the dismay of middle-class activists who otherwise would sponsor his activism. Alinsky is often credited with laying the foundation for confrontational political tactics that dominated the 1960s.

Alinsky was a ferocious critic of mainstream liberalism. A champion of radical propaganda tactics and propaganda techniques, Alinsky encouraged deception in organizational strategy.

While attending Wellesley College, a young Hillary Clinton was a major admirer of Alinsky. She wrote her undergraduate thesis on his work and ideas.

Saul Alinski wrote the book on American radicalism - two books, in fact - a 1945 best-seller, "Reveille for Radicals" and "Rules for Radicals" in 1971. The "Reveille" title page quotes Thomas Paine...
"Let them call me rebel and welcome, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul."

Saul Alinsky, who was a labor and civil-rights activist from the 1910's until he died in 1972, has written here a guidebook for those who are out to change things. He sets down what the goal is: a society where people are free to live, and also aren't starving in the streets. A society where there is legal and economic justice. Then he sets out to say how to get there.

Alinsky spends a lot of time critiquing the idea that "The end does not justify the means." What end? What means? He feels that there are circumstances where one can and should use means that in other circumstances would be unethical. I am not sure I agree, but Alinsky certainly speaks with the voice of experience.

Alinsky's goal seems to be to encourage positive social change by equipping activists with a realistic view of the world, a kind of preemptive disillusionment. If a person already knows what evil the world is capable of, then perhaps the surprise factor can be eliminated, making the person a more effective activist. Alinsky further seems to be encouraging the budding activist not to worry to much about getting his or her hands dirty. It's all a part of the job, he seems to say.

Alinski, the master political agitator, tactical planner and social organizer didn't mince words ..."

Liberals in their meetings utter bold works; they strut, grimace belligerently, and then issue a weasel-worded statement 'which has tremendous implications, if read between the lines.' They sit calmly, dispassionately, studying the issue; judging both sides; they sit and still sit.

The Radical does not sit frozen by cold objectivity. He sees injustice and strikes at it with hot passion. He is a man of decision and action. There is a saying that the Liberal is one who walks out of the room when the argument turns into a fight.

Society has good reason to fear the Radical. Every shaking advance of mankind toward equality and justice has come from the Radical. He hits, he hurts, he is dangerous. Conservative interests know that while Liberals are most adept at breaking their own necks with their tongues, Radicals are most adept at breaking the necks of Conservatives.

Radicals precipitate the social crisis by action - by using power. Liberals may then timidly follow along or else, as in most cases, be swept forward along the course set by Radicals, but all because of forces unloosed by Radical action. They are forced to positive action only in spite of their desires ...

The American Radical will fight privilege and power whether it be inherited or acquired by any small group, whether it be political or financial or organized creed.

He curses a caste system which he recognizes despite all patriotic denials.

He will fight conservatives whether they are business or labor leaders.

He will fight any concentration of power hostile to a broad, popular democracy, whether he finds it in financial circles or in politics.

The Radical recognizes that constant dissension and conflict is and has been the fire under the boiler of democracy. He firmly believes in that brave saying of a brave people, "Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!"

The Radical may resort to the sword but when he does he is not filled with hatred against those individuals whom he attacks. He hates these individuals not as persons but as symbols representing ideas or interests which he believes to be inimical to the welfare of the people.
That is the reason why Radicals, although frequently embarking upon revolutions, have rarely resorted to personal terrorism."

Alinski practiced what he preached. He said ...

"Tactics means doing what you can with what you have ... tactics is the art of how to take and how to give."

He uses eyes, ears and nose for examples ...

Eyes - "If you have a vast organization, parade it before the enemy, openly show your power."
Ears -

"If your organization is small, do what Gideon did: conceal the members in the dark but raise a clamor that will make the listener believe that your organization numbers many more that it does."

Nose - "If your organization is too tiny even for noise, stink up the place."
Alinski devised and proved thirteen tactical rules for use against opponents vastly superior in power and wealth ...

"Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.

Never go outside the experience of your people.

Wherever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy.

Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.

Ridicule is man's most potent weapon.

A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.

A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.

Keep the pressure on.

The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.

Major premise for tactics is development of operations that will maintain constant pressure upon the opposition.

If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.

The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
The real action is in the enemy's reaction. The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength. Tactics, like life, require that you move with the action."

Alinski was hated and defamed by powerful enemies, proof that his tactics worked. His simple formula for success ...

hillary was NOT valedictorian. That is my point. Wellesley has tried, over the years, to clarify this fact.

She was selected by her classmates to speak. I believe she did have a prepared speech, but she chose to respond to a previous speaker.

The re-emergence of Hillary Rodham Clinton
Posted: December 18, 1997
1:00 a.m. Eastern

By Joseph Farah
© 1997 WorldNetDaily.com

We haven't heard much from the first lady, lately. She's been keeping a relatively low profile. Rumors of an imminent indictment in the Whitewater case may be one reason. Her political failure in pushing through a health-care revolution in the first term may be another.

But she's coming back as the leading proponent of President Clinton's latest federal initiative -- a new government power grab in the name of "child care."

So let's get reacquainted with Hillary, shall we? What motivates her? What makes her tick?

At Wellesley, Hillary did her senior thesis on professional revolutionary Saul Alinsky. She met the leftist legend the summer before, and, as soon as she graduated, Alinksy offered her a job. She chose to attend Yale Law School instead.

Another big influence in her formative years was Marxist-Maoist theoretician Carl Oglesby, then president of the radical Students for a Democratic Society and editor of Motive, a left-wing magazine for young Methodists.

Motive was hardly a traditional church publication. During those years, it featured articles on commune life, the similarity between hallucinogenic drug trips and religious experiences, the realities of lesbianism and witch power. How influential was this publication on Hillary? Recently she told the Washington Post she still has a collection of all the back issues of Motive.

Her years at Yale were marked by her hard-core left-wing activism under the tutelage of Marian Wright Edelman. She also took a position with Robert Borosage, later a founder of the Institute for Policy Studies.

When Black Panther leader Bobby Seale was on trial in New Haven for murdering a fellow Panther, Hillary and her friends were in the courtroom every day where she assisted his far-left lawyer, Charles Garry. Through Garry, Hillary met Communist Party activists Jessica Mitford and her husband, Robert Truehaft, for many years the Communist Party USA's attorney. In the summer of 1971, Hillary interned at Truehaft's Berkeley law office. Truehaft, by the way, was once described by the House Committee on Un-America Activities as one of the most "dangerously subversive" attorneys in the country.

It was through her networking with this older generation of fifth column lawyers that Hillary got her position on the House Watergate Committee and later on the boards of directors of the Children's Defense Fund and the Legal Services Corporation.

David Brock writes in "The Seduction of Hillary Clinton" that under her control, the LSC "quickly swung back to the 1960s approach of aggressively using the courts to expand the welfare system and increase governmental control over private property, and to conduct ideologically generated and driven litigation." Hillary linked the LSC with various Marxist front groups, including the National Lawyers Guild.

Rep. James Sensenbrenner recalls her tenure at the helm of the LSC: "What Hillary was doing as chairman of the board was solidifying control by the government and the bureaucracy. And they were spending taxpayer money to do it. She tried the same with health care. Back then I reached the conclusion that she is a control freak. She wants to utilize the power of the federal government to make sure she, her people, and her philosophy have control."

When President Reagan was elected and took on the LSC's use of taxpayer dollars to back left-wing political activism, Hillary led the opposition. She authorized a blatantly illegal nationwide lobbying campaign to ensure survival of the agency.

When she left the LSC in 1982, she joined the board of the New World Foundation, a leftist philanthropy that funds, among other causes, Communist insurgency movements in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.

Those who know her said Hillary was a true revolutionary who disguised her militancy through her commitment to subvert the system from within. There is absolutely no reason to believe she has changed her stripes.

It is with this background that Americans should evaluate her next grand proposal -- a federal initiative on child care. Does she really care about your kids? Don't believe it. The children's liberation movement from which Hillary springs believes in using kids to gain power over their parents and society. They use children to destroy our most basic and fundamental rights.

This is the prism through which we should view her proposals. They may sound good. They may look good. But they are guaranteed to empower government and the extremist friends and philosophy Hillary has been promoting without interruption for nearly 30 years.
