This may sound like a strange question but I am serious.

Could the dog food contamination be an act of terrorism? Muslims think dogs are unclean but they know Americans love their pets.

Too paranoid?

OPINION: Food contamination in general could be an act of terrorism.
Investigators can/do determine whether terrorism is involved.

I have not heard/read of any update at this time that indicates terrorism was involved in the pet food recall.

Could be a dry run. Imagine if they contaminated Campbell's soup or McDonald's ketchup.

We now know the pet food contamination was rat poison--identified as aminopterin, a cancer drug that once was used to induce abortions in the United States and is still used to kill rats in some other countries.
Bob Rosenberg, senior vice president of government affairs for the National Pest Management Association, said it would be unusual for the wheat to be tainted.

"It would make no sense to spray a crop itself with rodenticide," Rosenberg said, adding that grain shippers typically put bait stations around the perimeter of their storage facilities. Houston Chronicle
