Giuliani leads in Spartanburg County straw poll (Duncan Hunter is 2nd)

With 71 of 75 precincts reporting, Giuliani had garnered 123 votes. California Rep. Duncan Hunter was running in second place, with 110 votes, and Arizona Sen. John McCain at 86 votes, according to county GOP officials.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had 59 votes, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback had 68 votes and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee rounded out the front-runners, with 18 votes.

This is about the fourth time you've posted this shallow analysis, and the fourth time I've responded by saying that people whose devotion to constitutional freedoms and conservatism is so shallow as to have their vote influenced by an Oprahesque reaction to debate aren't reliable anyway.

The word conservative does indeed get tossed around quite a bit.

My own definition would embrace the following elements in no particular order.

Understand the constitution was written and ratified to place limits on the power of the federal government.

Understands that the Bill of Rights was intended to place a whole lot more limitations on the power of the federal government.

Understands government power usually bears an inverse relationship to personal freedom.

Understands that federal power always comes at the expense of state and individual rights.

Understands that government action is usually the most inefficient and wasteful way to accomplish anything.

Understands that unless you give everyone an equal place at the starting gate you are probably racist.

Understands too; if you mandate equality at the finish line you are a socialist/communist.

Conservatives generally want less government interference in our lives, lower taxes and lower government spending, particularly at the federal level.

Thus the folks who want to raise taxes, spend money (in the government sector), take guns, kill babies, lose the war and promote amnesty may be nominal Republicans (RINO's) they are decidedly not conservatives.

We have nominated conservatives who lost (Goldwater) and conservatives who won (Reagan).

We have nominated liberals who won (Nixon, Both Bushes) and liberals who lost (Bush 41 to Clinton).

I am of the opinion unless we nominate and elect a conservative the country is worse off. Some want to elect a Republican (RINO) at all costs. Personally, I would rather have a Democrat I can cuss in office than a Republican I have to apologize for. Thus I am very hopeful by tonight's great surprise showing by Duncan Hunter.

I for one will not support Hillary no matter what. That would be silly. However, if I write in Ann Coulter instead of voting for Guiliani (should he become the nominee) and Hillary wins anyway, I don't think that Hillary's victory would be particularly worse for the republic than Rudi winning.

Well, Giuliani supports McCain/Feingold (so did Bush, obviously, he signed the damn thing), so I don't see how you can support Giuliani but refuse to support McCain because of it.

And let's face it, we never were sure if we had the votes for the nuke option. The Gang of 14 deal might have been bad, maybe, but it also may have given us Roberts and Alito (as well as a bunch of lesser judges). Giuliani also spoke well of the deal, if I'm not mistaken.

And ultimately, McCain's anti-Terrorism bill ended in a compromise that everybody from McCain to Bush to National Review was happy with, so again, I find it hard to hold that issue against him too much. Again, I don't remember Giuliani taking a stance against it, so again.

I can understand opposing McCain, I can understand opposing Giuliani. I can understand being willing to support McCain and not Giuliani. What I cannot understand is being willing to support Giuliani and not McCain.
