“Do you remember the big tent GOP that used to win national landslide elections in 49 states?”
I remember Ronald Reagan having a tent big enough to win 44 states in 1980 and 49 states in 1984, and he didn’t do it by being pro-partial-birth-abortion, pro-special-rights-for-gays, pro-gun-control, or pro-government-spending, but by attracting socially conservative blue-collar Democrats. Rudy Giuliani would have NO CHANCE attracting the Reagan Democrats that put George W. Bush over the top in 2000 and 2004 and that put him within 5% of also carrying Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota (which would have given him 35 states and 344 electoral votes).
