I just drove throUGH this storm a little over an hour ago on US 231 as it progressed towards East Montgomery. I was just hearing about it on the radio as I was driving home, about 20 miles east of Enterprise. THAT WAS TOO CLOSE.
WAY too close!
I've spent very little time in Alabama but one time I was at a Speech and Debate tournament at the U of A - had to drive a student back to leave early from the Birmingham aiport - so I was coming back in an empty 12 passenger van to Tuscaloosa, knowing that there was a Tornado watch, etc. Got in a horrible hail storm and had to pull over, I had one hand on the door ready to jump out into the ditch if I thought I saw a tornado. Ditch was full of water, not sure what I would have done, but nothing is less stable in wind than an empty 12 passenger van.
