One of the scariest storms I've ever seen on Radar. Storm Prediction Center issued a special mesoscale discussion for this individual storm.
Anyone watching the news channels (heard CNN had someone at Ft. Rucker doing a non-weather story) please chime in.
8-mile wide long damage path, dozens of homes heavily damaged. High school heavily damaged(where students are trapped).
Have seen multiple reports on other boards that TWC is reporting that a High School was completely destroyed and there are students trapped inside.
Lived in Enterprise for 11 years. Hope it's not too bad. Worst tornado I saw there was just after New Years in the early 70's. It was on Fort Rucker.
"High school heavily damaged(where students are trapped)."
Your post sent shivers down my spine! PRAYERS UP!
Seems like there's a lot of empty space on Fort Rucker, I'm not sure of the exact path it followed through the base.
I grew up in Elba, also in Coffee County.
Really bad news. Prayers for these folks.
God help them...
MSNBC is getting a report that the HS in Enterprise has been destroyed. No commo into the area per the Ozark Mayor..
Apparently it missed the populated part of the base.
However, if there's still a tornado it's hitting Abbeville right now.
The report mentions Bowden Terrace on Fort Rucker we lived very close to there when we lived in post housing.
A good friend of mine retired out of Fort Rucker and move to Elba that was many years ago though, in the mid 70's.
Prayers? Absolutely!
Our house was hit in Montgomery several years ago. It was a scary experience waking up to "hitting the deck". Yet, we were blessed that day and months to come!
I graduated high school there in 1978.
AT 200 PM CST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND STORMSPOTTERS WERE TRACKING A LARGE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TORNADO. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR ABBEVILLE...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 55 MPH.
Doesn't look like any larger towns in its path for a while, but a lot of little ones. About to cross over some type of lake.
Don't know anything about layout of Enterprise, but local here in Bham just talked to someone from Ent Sherrif dept says hit main street area, courthouse area, several subdivisions hit. Hospital and High School too.
