A Burlington girl missing more than a year has been found in northern Mississippi in a run-down mobile home with her mother, who is accused of kidnapping the child and forcing her to use a fake name, authorities said.
Trashanda Waytes, 9, disappeared in November 2005, one month after a judge awarded her father custody of the child. Authorities said they used a tip to track the girl to Byhalia, Miss., on Tuesday night, and her father was traveling Wednesday to Mississippi to bring his daughter home.
Ron Waytes may be in for quite a shock when the two are reunited.
"She denied she was Trashanda Waytes," said David Jolley, a U.S. Marshal based in Memphis, Tenn. "She denied to officers she was the missing girl from Iowa the whole time, until her mother finally fessed up. ... Apparently the mother pressed it upon her that she follow this story that the child go by the fake name. That's who she thought she was."

Good one!
Gal who worked for me was going to have a baby, and asked my opinion as to whether "Laqueefa" or "Aboobika" was better. I sprained my lips trying to prevent a 360-degree smile from splitting my head in half.
I voted for Aboobika of course.
To make this worse, Trashanda is her middle name.
Her first name is "White"!
Nah...I'm just kidding.
But is it good news? We don't know, really. Maybe the mother felt she was protecting the girl. Courts can be idiots sometimes -- not everyone who has custody really should have custody. We don't know the true backstory.
How about Jermisha and Jerkisha? Two pretty good basketball-playing twins from around here who won full-ride scholarships. And I have run across some Asian boys named Sue. The best was an Asian boy named My Ho. He had a sense of humor about it.
Was she 9 before or after she vanished? Just curious if anyone knew.
Her fathers named........Ron?
I went to high school with a girl whose parents wanted to look euro, so they named their daughter Yvonne. They gave the game away, though, by pronouncing it Wye-vonne.
Trashanda Dempsty is her real name
...judge awarded her father custody of the child!!!!!
This should have been the headline.
I'd like to know how this guy managed to get the court on his side. Men rarely get custody.
There does seem to be a certain allure to the French sounding names. Lots of Le and La and ette and elle that sometimes begin in sh and ch. Then there are the ita, que, and qua names. Huge number of permutations. I am sure someone has written a program to design such names.
LaChanelle, Shenette, LeCharles, LaShaqua, etc.
I knew a guy worked in a maternity ward who claimed that people had named their kids "Nosmoking" (nozz-moe-king), "Pajamas" (Padge-uh-muss), and "Urethra". Then there's the ever popular "Shithead" (shuh-theed).
He's probably right.
Father hopes to find missing daughter
"Trashanda was 3 months old when her mother told Waytes he was the father. He wasn't sure he believed the mother, but he still fell in love with the baby. Waytes was devastated when he learned from a DNA test that someone else was Trashanda's biological father.
But the courts still ruled that Waytes was an "excellent" father, caring for the girl 90 percent of the time while Trashanda's mother missed 16 every-other-weekend visits in the span of 12 months. The judge awarded Waytes custody, saying the years of reading books to Trashanda and taking her to the park proved he was more fit as a parent."
