A Burlington girl missing more than a year has been found in northern Mississippi in a run-down mobile home with her mother, who is accused of kidnapping the child and forcing her to use a fake name, authorities said.
Trashanda Waytes, 9, disappeared in November 2005, one month after a judge awarded her father custody of the child. Authorities said they used a tip to track the girl to Byhalia, Miss., on Tuesday night, and her father was traveling Wednesday to Mississippi to bring his daughter home.
Ron Waytes may be in for quite a shock when the two are reunited.
"She denied she was Trashanda Waytes," said David Jolley, a U.S. Marshal based in Memphis, Tenn. "She denied to officers she was the missing girl from Iowa the whole time, until her mother finally fessed up. ... Apparently the mother pressed it upon her that she follow this story that the child go by the fake name. That's who she thought she was."

I'm guessing she's not particularly vulnerable to skin cancer.
If my name was Trashanda, I think I'd deny it, too!
But I guess it's good that she's found.
Just damn.
"Trashanda"
I question the fitness of any parent, who would saddle their child with a name beginning with "trash." You just know where that's headed in middle school.
Nope. Here in Atlanta, a name like that would not even make one blink twice. Damn shame. Sorry, my son Traimequa just woke up and his mom Ashtrondia wants me to deal with him.
Who cares what her name is? My family is Welsh and we've got aunts and uncles with names like Olwyn, Blodwyn, and Enoch. By modern day American standards these are pretty weird too.
Thankfully the little girl was found safe, this is what people should care about... not what color her skin is. Get over it already people!
Just damn.
Sorry, I just had to do it.
Thank you...
I was very close to having this thread pulled.
Sheesh......
Can't say as I blame her.
I knew a girl named Jayqucea. It was pronounced "Jock-see".
With a start like this in life, this girl has great potential for the future. She needs our prayers.
Even made up names are okay with me. Silly sounding, maybe, but what the heck. But giving kids the chance to "trash" your kid's name is juts plain dumb!
Fer crying out loud, you are right. Enoch is a pretty well known name. The Welshman needs to expand his reading to the Old Testament.
I personally think Trashanda is a mighty fine trailer-park name. It might catch on. Its much better than Debbie-Lou or J-Lou-Ann.
How's about LaTreen?
I think you are talking about her younger sister, LaTreen ...
