Just heard on CNN that the original report was incorrect and the military confirmed it was a controlled explosion that was bigger than expected. CNN also admitted that they independently confirmed the report from other media sources.
Gotta remember this AP guy's name. JAMAL HALABY
If someone has the time and resources to check some of his other stories, they may prove interesting.
Correspondents could not criticize the Allied conduct of the war.
Correspondents could not send demoralizing dispatches.
Correspondents could not report casualties or quote officers without authorization.
Correspondents were placed under the jurisdiction of the army and were subject to court martial for serious offenses.
(more regulations at the link).
They are not still using JAMAL HALABY, are they?
Go to the link in post #17. He's named as a contributor at the end of the article. I know that name but can't remember from where.

Report of Soccer Field Deaths "False"
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
February 28, 2007 posted 9:56 am EST
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A report that 18 boys were killed this week in a car bombing in Ramadi is "false," a senior American military official said Wednesday.
[snip]
But Rear Admiral Mark Fox, an American military spokesman, said "the allegation was false" and suggested that rumors began circulating after a controlled detonation by American forces caused injuries in Ramadi.
On Tuesday, a military statement said 30 civilians and one Iraqi soldier were injured by flying debris when troops destroyed 15 bags of explosives. None of the injuries was life-threatening, it added.
"There was no second blast," Admiral Fox told reporters, "and there was no 18 children killed."
I guess the AP isn't ready for the sequel of "Jamil Hussein And The Case Of The Burning Sunnis".
Thank you both very much. I try really hard to not let these media losers get to me, but I honestly don't have the patience that so many of you have. I get upset way too often over it. Fortunately, I have great FReepers to turn to when that happens!!
Geez....even after Fox finally retracts the story....they really are a Dinosaur...
