PUEBLO, Colo. -- A woman was a accused of giving a 5-month-old boy to a couple in exchange for a down payment on a used car, police said Tuesday.
A tip led police Monday to Nicole Uribe, 23, who got a Dodge Intrepid as part of the deal with Jose-Juan Lerma, 47, and his wife, Irene, 27, authorities said. The baby was allegedly switched for $1,500, only $500 of which was for the down payment.
The couple was arrested Tuesday. The three are charged with suspicion of felony trafficking in children and were being held at the Pueblo jail under $50,000 bail each.
It was not clear if they had attained attorneys.
The baby was placed in a foster home, Police Sgt. Brett Wilson said. Wilson said all three were Mexican nationals and federal officials had been asked to investigate their immigration status.
I see it as upside. We usually just kill them.
What was the make/model?
They're just selling the babies that Americans won't sell.
Thank goodness that baby is away from the momma. Hopefully he/she won't be sent back.
Dodge Intrepid.
"Attained"?
Geez, don't these AP pukes ever proofread their work?
Honestly. Stuff like this breaks my heart. I guess that's why I try to make a joke. Sorry.
I do it too. It beats crying, which is my inclination. People put such little value on human life and it's not just the illegals.
She traded a baby for this bucket of bolts?
You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.
Don't apologize, Spruce. This story made me so sad, and you gave me some comic relief. Thanks.
"...who got a Dodge Intrepid as part of the deal ..."
I'm guessing that a deal for a Prius would have mitigated the charge. (And a deal for a Hummer would have raised it to a capital offense.)
Remember, Jorge says "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande".
an Intrepid? what a gyp. now if it had been a Corvette...
They should name the kid "Otto."
What year? This might have been a good deal.
Adoption is better than abortion. And you can bet this little boy would have been better off with parents who wanted him than he will be in a paid "foster home." People willing to pay for him are more likely to take good care of him than people who want to be paid for taking him in.
Legal adoption is designed to make sure the parents qualify, but it's also very bureaucratic and very expensive.
They all should have stayed in Mexico, and then it would have worked out.
