With apologies to Otto von Bismarck, if old europe could not find a single "Pomeranian grenadier" ready to lay down his life to end the Balkans conflict and are even now weaseling their way out of Iraq and Afghanistan how do they expect to become a superpower? "Soft power?" Their scintillating moral force? (tee hee!).

America rescued Europe 60 years ago from Hitler and Russia so they better be thankful they have lasted this long.
they will never be a counter balance to the USA.

"The best available estimates show that there are between 1.9 million and 2.8 million Muslims in the United States. And
unlike their European counterparts, American Muslims generally do not feel marginalized or isolated from political participation."
Why would anyone emigrate to Europe when he can come here, instead? Only if you're more interested in "taking over" than in making a better future for yourself and your family.
"According to a 2004 Zogby Poll, American Muslims are more educated and affluent than the national average, with 59 percent of them holding at least an undergraduate college degree. Moreover, the majority of American Muslims are employed in professional fields, with one in three having an income over $75,000 a year."
With an increasingly secularized Mohammedan population as a result, or at least we should hope.

Europe as a superpower to rival the US is a huge joke that is only a reality in the delusional minds of the absolute losers in the elite world of the media, academia and politics. No union of 25 countries with 25 languages and 25 cultures is going to be a coherent power to rival the most advanced, the richest and most powerful nation known to man, the United States of America.

"Transformative power" won't last long as people start to realize what Europe is really like. I'm glad I saw it for myself early so I knew which professors I could trust.

Will Europe Become More Like America?
No.
However, more Europeans will become Americans.
There is fast reaching a point at which non-assimilated immigrants to European countries will cause many old Europeans to sell and move out.
Where?
Guess.

A good article but it's a little to rosy about the U.S. when it comes to Muslim's and their assimilation into U.S. society. We (U.S.) already have two pro Muslim voting congressional districts, one im Minnesota and one in Michigan. The U.S. Muslim population is estimated to be about 2% to 3% of the general population. If it should be allowed to grow to the 5% to 7% range we will be dealing with much the same problems that are currently taking place in France and Germany. Reason being is that U.S. Muslims DO NOT assimilate into the general population to the degree suggested in this article. They do tend to live in clusters and tend to mix within themselves even in the U.S. Once their population reaches the 5% plus range they will have around five or six representatives in congress which is a large enough number to give them an influential voting block; large enough to sway close legislative issues their way. The only way to prevent this from occurring is by some enlightened immigration policy changes that will significantly limit Muslim immigration into this country. However, I am dubious that this will happen because our current congress is gutless and the general population is oblivious.

Europe is not a "super power" nor will it ever be. It is a danger to what will be left of Western society (North American Union and Australia) in the later part of the 21st century, as Islam becomes the dominate political force in Europe....maybe sooner...I just hope the European boat people don't make it over here...

Europe didn't run the 20th century. They just caused most of the troubles. Europe hasn't "run" anything since Napoleon.

The only folks who are being "fruitful" & "multiplying" are the unassimilated muslims who are literally disgusted by the Europeans for being libertine perverts interested only lapdances & gay porn.
Preached a steady diet of muslim supremicist rhetoric in the mosque combined with the willingness of the Europeans to literally give away the store at the drop of a hat to avoid being viewed as bigoted in any way, shape, form or fashion the Europe of the "greatest generation" is literally a dead man walking but to stupid to fall down.

Europe will dominate this century because it is based on a new understanding of power If cowtowing to muslim fanatics is understanding new power then Europe is on its way to a better tomorrow.

Leonard's thesis is that Europe will dominate this century because it is based on a new understanding of power, which is embodied in the institutions and norms of the European Union. He argues that the economic, political and social models of the European Union are irresistibly attractive to the countries around it, and as they adopt the European economic and legal framework, they are transformed from the inside out.
This really means attractive to elitists who see themselves as the arbiters of institutional power. Europe has a long history of inherited aristocracy. Those same elitists seek to re-establish the new european power aristocracy, the eurocrats.
There is NOTHING in the eu for the individual.
Like the old USSR, the individual exists to serve the EU.
The individual does not get served by the EU.
