WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- Angry rock fans destroyed a concert hall sound system, broke windows and shattered bar glasses and set a car on fire when a popular Mexican rock band got stuck in the snow and had to cancel an evening show.
At least 600 people who paid up to $60 a ticket to see the band El Tri on Sunday were told the group was caught in a massive blizzard outside Reno and would miss their appearance.
About 100 fans trashed the Watsonville Veterans Memorial Hall where the band was scheduled to play, said David Ruiz of San Jose, a friend of the band. Click here to find out more!
Another 200 people spilled into the street, setting fire to a car, vandalizing other vehicles and trying unsuccessfully to turn over a truck, police said.
About 40 officers in riot formation cleared the area, Watsonville police Sgt. Saul Gonzalez said. No arrests were made.
1 to 5 ratio of riot cops to rioters and not a single arrest? Someone wasn't trying very hard.
No arrests? What kind of BS is that?
Just doing the rioting......
I think the Watsonville police are getting their training from the Border Patrol.
Maybe I've just missed the news, but does this happen much in the US?
susie
They don't get much snow in Mexico. Celebrate Diversity!;)
They di'n wanna offen' nobody.
the riot was a life-style choice, we must not be judgemental.
More tom-foolery in Northern Mexico.
:)
>>Maybe I've just missed the news, but does this happen much in the US?<<
I think we will be seeing more rioting in Northern Mexico, and Mecca West (Michigan) over the next few years.
What band?.... Los Raton?..
What about El Chicago?
Heh,
I was a few miles outside of Elgin last summer on a Sunday around noon. I was desperate for a Starbucks. There was NONE to be found. Out of desperation, I pulled over to a McDonalds for a cup of coffee.
The place was packed. With the exception of me and an elderly couple, every single person in the place, even the employees, was "hispanic". There was no english being spoken that I was aware of, even as people gave their orders at the counter.
It was surreal.
Arrests mean paperwork, which means ID checks, which mean uncomfortable facts about legal status come to light, which mean charges of racism get leveled at the police chief...ah, what the heck - best just forget the whole thing. ;)
