How can the Democrats condemn these poor people to certain death by pulling away their American protectors?

They'll have to deal with it eventually. We can only do so much...

We haven't done nearly as much as we can do yet. We have not done one percent of what we can do.

Really?! . . . Should we also have prematurely withdrawn from Japan and Europe (WW2) and Korea (Korean Conflict) or is it only the Arab/Muslim countries with whom you have a problem?!

What is the origin of this video? It appears to be a US Army product. The reporter is an Army Sgt. Is this video and it's posting on YouTube evidence of a new infowar strategy?

As I tell my wife: there could be a MacDonald's on every corner, a crime rate lower than anywhere in the US and every Iraqi driving a Honda van and the MSM would still report that the war is lost! They'd follow this story by declaring that the sky is falling and it's Bush's fault!

This question... I have posted many times with no satisfactory answers forthcoming.

Have our intelligence come up with the estimated number of "insurgents" ( Baathists and Al Qaeda foreigners) in the SUNNI region ?

We've killed thousands of them, but how many are there and how many do we still have to mop up ? Or is this number an unknown and we don't really know how many of them we're facing ? If the later, we're really screwed....

I am in the dark regarding a "metric" ( any metric will be helpful ) as to how far we still have to go before relative stability is reached.

Anybody here who can give me a number ?

I got the link from http://www.mudvillegazette.com

But I did a little investigating. The video on YouTube was placed up there by a civilian and appeared to be from a series the Pentagon has put out. I found the original.

Go to: http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/
Click on OIF/OEF NEWSCASTS on the left
Then select:
Freedom Journal Iraq
Feb 23, 2007

You will see the entire newscast.

This video shows how unique the United States is a nation of inovators. Unlike Europeans we are much slower to throw down our arms and give up when something goes wrong. Nobody has ever tried to change a nation the way we are right now in Iraq.
The new tactics of clear hold and rebuild will show people in Iraq how to live together without the domination of Saddam to keep them in line. After people are shown how nice it is to be free they will be very wary to let the Jihadis come back.

Hopefully!

I've seen estimates between 50,000 and 200,000. But they're all guesses.

The real point is, Iran is the funding and support feeding these troops in. They have the resources to throw another 100,000 cannon fodder this way.

So the slow bleeding will continue for a while, unless Iran is dealt with in some other way. They can't win the war of attrition, but they can make it ugly. But in the end, they are doomed to lose. We lost 6,000+ dead, 25,000+ wounded in 30 days of fighting for Iwo Jima, and that was a victory. This war's body count has been a non-issue.

Well of course, that is obvious. But it is not also obvious it should not be now.

From the recent official reports made public, there is no real good estimate.

We've killed thousands of them, but how many are there and how many do we still have to mop up ? Or is this number an unknown and we don't really know how many of them we're facing ? If the later, we're really screwed....

It is extremely difficult to estimate the size of an insurgency. However, you don't need to know the exact size to overcome an insurgency. I would refer you to this manual for further details:

U.S. Military Counterinsurgency Manual, December 2006

I am in the dark regarding a "metric" ( any metric will be helpful ) as to how far we still have to go before relative stability is reached.

You are not going to win this thing by killing people. (read Chapter 1 of the above manual.) There is a holistic approach to counterinsurgency operations. You get to a point where the security provided by the government overcomes the perceived security provided by the insurgency. When you get to that point (which is as much political as it is military), you are over the hump. After reading, if you still have questions, ask away.

Can't give you a number and here's why.

When there is little or no security the average Joe (Haji) will pick up his AK-47 and become "Loyal" to what is thought at the time to be the strongest gang in is neighborhood. It's not that he wants to because in general he doesn't. He does this because it's the easiest way to stay alive.

When you flood the area with "Security" ie. US Armed Forces the average "Haji" can tend to his life in a more peaceful way. This YouTube video is total proof in what I just said.

Sad thing is when we leave, it will all turn back into a big ol shit hole.
