The 20 Rarest Muscle Cars

Among muscle cars, there always were a few that, for whatever reason were a little more rare than others. This list shows the rarest factory built production muscle cars. These are cars that ANY buyer could walk into ANY dealer and conceivably order. One off cars for company executives, dealer modified cars (Yenkos, Baldwin-Motion, etc.) and purpose built race cars (427 Cobras) are not included. Cars are ranked by total built by year, model, body style, and engine. Transmission breakouts are also shown, if known. Further breakdowns (by color, options, accessory) are either impossible to get or impractical. Note that by their nature, Hemi Convertibles are widely represented on this list. Convertibles represented everything that the typical muscle car buyer didn't want - a higher price, more weight, and generally lower top speed. Add to that the high performance (and high price tag) for the Hemi engine, and it is no surprise that Hemi Convertibles are the most rare of all muscle cars. In fact, throughout the Hemi era (1966-1971), Chrysler built 8,420,000 cars, yet only 179 of them (1 out of every 47,000) were Hemi convertibles. Truly, as a group, these were the most rare of the rare.

Hoosiersailor: Here's the pictures I promised.

rockrr: You asked about current rides/projects, here's the latest.

Brad's Gramma: Thought you might wanna see this.

NY Attitude: The 6 barrel came out in 1969 1/2 as a package, not an option, and they all had hoods like this.

Before...rusted and rat-chewed 1969 Plymouth Satellite.

After...1969 1/2 Roadrunner 6 Barrel clone.

All work was done by us except the upholstery stitching and headliner, engine machining and alignment. About 14 months of on and off working on it. I can't believe he painted it blue. It's a very nice blue, but BORING! Had it been mine, it would have been Hemi Orange, no doubt about it.

And passed a cop within the first 5 seconds...

LOL!

I remember those Jensen coaxials, had some. Before that, in a '73 'Cuda 340 I had two 6"x9" and two 6" round Sparkomatic speakers hooked to a 4 channel matrix Sanyo cassette deck. 24 watts per channel, no amp. It was the loudest and clearest car stereo I've ever heard, it would make your ears bleed. Total cost...about $160.00.

I have since listened to 4 to 6 thousand dollar systems with thousands of watts and they don't even come close.

Inflation, I guess.

A big WOW. So you had to trash the left rear red wheel, eh?

I agree with you on the hemi orange. It is my absolutely favorite color!

Oh, it's around here someplace awaiting the next project. Junk wheels and tires make bodywork and painting much easier, no need to worry about screwing 'em up.

LOL that was the color of my 70 Super Bee. And you are correct, the 440 6Pak came as a package.

Thanks Grammy..........and everyone.....for the prayers.

The consult is scheduled for Friday at noon. I'll know more after that.

We're supposed to get hit with another snowstorm tomorrow night and it's supposed to last until Friday or Saturday. I really hope the roads are half-way decent on Friday because I do NOT want to have to re-schedule this for next week........
