The 20 Rarest Muscle Cars

Among muscle cars, there always were a few that, for whatever reason were a little more rare than others. This list shows the rarest factory built production muscle cars. These are cars that ANY buyer could walk into ANY dealer and conceivably order. One off cars for company executives, dealer modified cars (Yenkos, Baldwin-Motion, etc.) and purpose built race cars (427 Cobras) are not included. Cars are ranked by total built by year, model, body style, and engine. Transmission breakouts are also shown, if known. Further breakdowns (by color, options, accessory) are either impossible to get or impractical. Note that by their nature, Hemi Convertibles are widely represented on this list. Convertibles represented everything that the typical muscle car buyer didn't want - a higher price, more weight, and generally lower top speed. Add to that the high performance (and high price tag) for the Hemi engine, and it is no surprise that Hemi Convertibles are the most rare of all muscle cars. In fact, throughout the Hemi era (1966-1971), Chrysler built 8,420,000 cars, yet only 179 of them (1 out of every 47,000) were Hemi convertibles. Truly, as a group, these were the most rare of the rare.

The engine choice and preliminary measurements
for the engine swap were taken from a sleeper 1959
Chevy Impala with a modified 283ci Corvette engine

Roll up winders were a sacriledge(sp?) to a true British sports car driver. Took my drivers test in the Bugeye, hehehe, the Ohio trooper giving the test was about 6'5", did not know how to open the doors and it was raining cats and dogs that late spring day. Parallel park part of the test went like a snap.LOL
Paid 300 bucks for that little car and back in 64 got 43 MPG on the highway and about 36 in town. Fun, fun little car. But the SU carbs were crap.

Yugo will be introducing three new vehicles next year. They will have a moped called an "I Go". They will have a

It's entirely possible. There were a couple of models I had trouble tracking down pictures of, so I had to cross my fingers and hope the one I got was correct -- all the info wasn't there on a couple of them. I was hoping if they were wrong, someone would know!!

One car missing from the list, and one of the most unique muscle cars around, the 1969 American Motors SC/rambler. They stuffed a 390 cubic inch 315 hp motor into a small Rambler with a Hurst 4-speed. It was a great muscle car, and very inexpensive for the performance. I wsaw that as well. I used to own a 1970 Dodge Superbee with a 440 6Pak engine. The air cleaner was very distinctive. That was the reason for the question.
