Clinton Fights to Keep Impeachment Taboo

After Spat, Campaigns Know to Expect Swift Reprisal for Any Hint of the Scandal

By Anne E. Kornblut
Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, February 25, 2007

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has a new commandment for the 2008 presidential field: Thou shalt not mention anything related to the impeachment of her husband.

With a swift response to attacks from a former supporter last week, advisers to the New York Democrat offered a glimpse of their strategy for handling one of the most awkward chapters of her biography. They declared her husband's impeachment in 1998 -- or, more accurately, the embarrassing personal behavior that led to it -- taboo, putting her rivals on notice and all but daring other Democrats to mention the ordeal again.

Hillary Clinton was at her most popular when her husband's dalliance with an intern was publicly revealed. (1998 Photo By Robert Reeder -- The Washington Post)

"In the end, voters will decide what's off-limits, but I can't imagine that the public will reward the politics of personal destruction," senior Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said Friday, when asked whether the impeachment is fair game for Clinton's opponents. Earlier in the week, Wolfson dismissed references to President Bill Clinton's conduct as "under the belt."

But the reality, of course, is that the impeachment was conducted very much in public.

This is too rich. The authoress of "the politics of personal destruction" is using her mafia tone again. I am enjoying every moment watching this b*tch self-destruct.

I wonder what her projectile of choice is now that there aren't many ash trays around any more.

I'm sure lamps do nicely. The big ones really pack a punch.

I hope these compilations of truths will make you copy, paste and send the following to everyone in your address book. Everyone better open their eyes and pay attention!

In case you had any doubts about how truly malevolent, radical and vulgar Hillary is, these quotes reveal the reality. They have been compiled from thirteen different books and some from Hillary's speeches or interviews. Read 'em and vow to pass this on to everyone you know!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This ill-tempered, violent, foul mouthed, hateful and abusive woman wants to be your president and have total control as commander-in-chief of a military that her party so openly and proudly admit they detest. No thanks, my country cannot afford to let the trashy traitorous Clintons near the White House again!

She is a cross between mafia kingpin and Marxist queen of the universe. I used to hope that she would be sent to prison but somehow I fear she'd be hailed a hero. I now just pray every day that she will be rendered insignificant.

Please read my post #43, cut and paste it in an email and send it to all in your address book. Emails have a way of taking on a life of their own and we need to continue spreading the word about this very real vile enemy of our country.

Excellent collection of Hillary's foul-mouthed utterances. The one about the need to acquire power in order to make a difference is straight from the rule book of her communist mentor. Her promise to take things from us "for the common good" should be cause enough to prevent her from EVER coming to power.

If this country' precious freedoms are to survive, she must be defeated.

No, this is exactly why MRS BILL CLINTON wants to permanently erase memories of the impeachment: she knows she has to have Bubba help her win the White House and then govern, but so long as he's wandering the halls, there are the ghosts of thongs and interns to contend with.

THE MISDIRECTION

Misdirection, both accidental and intentional, surrounds the Geffen-clinton imbroglio.

The real reason hillary clinton is a fatally defective candidate--
the real reason hillary clinton is in a state of panic--
the real reason hillary clinton is trying to disallow criticism of the clintons--
is NOT the clinton adultery.... And it's not the impeachment.

Rather:

As I recall, "under the belt" is where Monica met Bill. Time after time.

DemocRATs are not honest participants in the political process. They have NO honor or credibility; deserve NO elected office. Would-be tyrants like Hillary must be stopped. Everything Bill & Hill did while in office must be publicly listed, again and again.

Interesting that the article is from WaPo. More indications (Geffen being another) that the liberal base is more than a little tired of her highness. But so far her highness doesn't get it that the peasants are revolting, and keeps issuing edicts and ultimatums--not the way to get and keep friends.

Does not bode well at all for Hillary's campaign.

The media wants the only thing from Hillary's past that is to be considered "baggage" her vote in 2002 about the use of force against Saddam Hussein. Right now you have slight nuances separating the Democrat candidates on the war and on bugging out quickly, but no substantial differences, and the idea is to rule out any idea that Bush was right to remove Saddam or that we should try to finish the job over there...to guarantee that the Republicans will have a huge hurdle to overcome in 2008 over Iraq and (they hope) to guarantee a Democrat victory.

The usual Clinton strategy in every scandal is to stonewall until it can be considered "old news" while attacking anyone who even raises the issue. Hillary's hope is that by 2008 people will have either forgotten all the scandals or will be hostile to anyone who even mentions them.

When you consider her opposition within the Democrat field, her chances still look very good for being the nominee...and the Republicans can't win if half their base won't accept the nominee, or if the nominee can't win votes outside the base.

IMO, it was a combination of the hate America voting crowd and the appearance of Ross Perot, who had a personal vendetta against Bush senior.
