Clinton Fights to Keep Impeachment Taboo
After Spat, Campaigns Know to Expect Swift Reprisal for Any Hint of the Scandal

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has a new commandment for the 2008 presidential field: Thou shalt not mention anything related to the impeachment of her husband.
With a swift response to attacks from a former supporter last week, advisers to the New York Democrat offered a glimpse of their strategy for handling one of the most awkward chapters of her biography. They declared her husband's impeachment in 1998 -- or, more accurately, the embarrassing personal behavior that led to it -- taboo, putting her rivals on notice and all but daring other Democrats to mention the ordeal again.

"In the end, voters will decide what's off-limits, but I can't imagine that the public will reward the politics of personal destruction," senior Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said Friday, when asked whether the impeachment is fair game for Clinton's opponents. Earlier in the week, Wolfson dismissed references to President Bill Clinton's conduct as "under the belt."
But the reality, of course, is that the impeachment was conducted very much in public.

its amazing how she can just issue these sweeping orders - and the media and any democratic opponent just falls in line and obeys.
"Hillary, as the wife of a previously impeached former President..."
You forgot to mention that Hillary is also the wife of a rapist.
Hillary is "putting a little ice on that" in a hurry.
Okay guys, the woman just told us what to do. Climb to the mountaintops and scream "impeachment" until she crawls away.
"alleged Rapist" would be the proper legal term...
It's going to be kind of difficult to keep Monica, Etc. quiet, given that, by a beautiful stroke of timing, next January will be the 10th Anniversary of everything breaking - so there will be a lot of talk about it, right in the middle of her campaign, whether Hillary likes it or not.
Censorship is Hillary's middle name.
an impeached rapist at that.
How many "I'm sorry, I can't recall" answers was she allowed in the hearing chaired by Dan Rostenkowski and the ways and means komiteh?
This woman and her husband lie so easily that even rich lefties like Geffen are appalled by it!
Or below the belt... we all know where Monica liked to spend her time.
1. The Dems might go along with that. I think there's a good amount of other people who probably won't. [Cough, cough.]
2. Not to put too fine a point on it, even if we went along with it (which we won't), that leaves a lot of stuff as fair game. I think if I were her, I might rather declare (for example) my investment prowess off limits than my husband's impeachment. He's not running, see.
She is a shrill ignorant leftist, a ruthless person, no respect for the military or law enforcement, a vile left wing partisan, screwed up health reform, a socialist, fired innocent travel workers and had them prosecuted to bring her cronies in, Rose law firm cover up artist, hid subpeoaned records, threatened her husband's victims, screamed "vast right wing conspiracy" when in fact he was guilty, used the term "jew bastard", is anti-semitic, campaign finance scandals, etc.
is someone going to start talking about what is really wrong with HER?
What a tyrant. This is her kind of leadership.
I left out turning $1,000 into $100,000 overnight without risking any of her own money. The FBI files. Please, this woman is a horror lets focus on her wrongdoing and wrong headedness.
The Rodhamites are looking for that 1 % to 2 % sympathy vote that could be associated with attaching Bubba's impeachment to her campaign. These people can be identified by their subscriptions to the Sunday NYT.
Impeachment really has little to do with Hillary. If anything, it paints her as a sympathetic victim (if that's possible). If she's overly sensitive about that, maybe it's because part of the liberal fantasy about a Hillary presidency is the thought of Bubba back as "co-president" again. As the unelected spouse the next time, Bill can whore around as much as he wants and nobody can impeach him over it.
I don't think it will be much of an issue with Hillary's campaign. She shouldn't waste too much political capital trying to keep it quiet.
