A truck exploded Saturday as worshippers left a Sunni mosque in a city in a volatile area west of Baghdad, killing at least 35 people and wounding 62, local police said.

The blast occurred about 3:30 p.m. in Habbaniyah, 50 miles west of Baghdad, after prayer services at the mosque, which is adjacent to a police station, police officer Abdul-Aziz Mohammed said.

Habbaniyah lie between the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah in the insurgent stronghold of Anbar province.

No no agenda here. Since the surge revolves around Baghdad everything has to be linked SOME how to Baghdad so they can spin the notion "the Surge is failing"

its obvious that mosque's are bad for your health, they should shut them all down, especially here in the USA

Yeppers....I don't think that if a truck bomb went off in Waco, that it would be reported that it went off in the Dallas area...

Who said it was Shias? Just because the victims were Sunnis?
Al-Qaeda targets Sunnis as well, for exactly this reason.
They KNOW everyone suspects Shias first, so more angry Sunnis fill their ranks.

We don't know who did it. Intelligence and interrogations may show who was behind this. Right now it could be everyone.

No, but they might try to get away with saying it was "just west of Bagdad..."

I think I heard on Rush yesterday that 80% of the violence occurs within a 50 mile radius of Baghdad. This would somewhat indicate that the surge IS working.

Okay. I'll grant you that it could have been anyone. Not necessarily a comforting thought in itself but...

It's getting to where hanging out at the mosque is just a damn dangerous thing to do. Shame.

I am saying this. The leaders at these mosques are contributing more to the problem that the solution. A mosque being attacking inside Iraq is an attack on the existing corrupt tribal power structure. It's an inherently weak structure notr because of Islam but because of the tribal attitudes that predate Islam. Muslims carry on business everyday very nicely in Singapore, thank you.

Can we all agree if muslims and christians (and their agnostic parasites) don't find some common ground for dialog, the future is suck. Reduce the role of the powerful theologians in the east and increase the role in the west and you pave the way for reform.

I should have said in Iraq. It's stupid to attack non-political religious places of worship. that's clearly not the case in Iraq. These places are command posts.

Perhaps we should should simply pave the way over Mecca.
