Appeal For Courage Reaches 1,000 Signatures!
Appeal For Courage ^

After only two weeks, a grassroots site where military members can show their support for the mission has reached its first milestone of 1,000 signitures!
As congress gears up for another round of debates on the battle in Iraq and threatens to cut off funding for the troops this appeal has become critical.
Please spread the word about an appeal for redress that people in the military can sign to show support for the mission:

It took two weeks to get 1,000 e-signatures? Slow going. I wonder why? Is it that e-petitions and the like are so useless and people realize that fact? Why is this appeal "critical"? What do people do with the names on these petitions? [Maybe I'm too suspicious. Maybe not.]

Appeal for Courage is a site started by a sailor stationed in Baghdad and a veteran. It has no big money behind it like a similar regress site against the war. The other site has been featured extensively in the news, in fact they will be on 60 minutes this Sunday. In contrast, Appeal for Courage has only had one short interview on Neil Cavuto. We need to somehow get the word out about
Appeal for Courage.

Skepticism is healthy and appreciated and the word critical is maybe too extreme. However the regress will lose importance after the congressional debate if the debate goes against the mission. This regress will be submitted to congressmen.
The reason for 1,000 signatures in two weeks is two fold:
1) The only people who can sign this petition are active and reserve military.
2) It has only really been advertised in some blogs, like FR. The biggest obstacle we face is getting the word out to those in the military. TV doesn't seem interested in this yet. They are more interested in the regress that shows opposition to the war. To get their interest we need more signitures.

The anti-war group to be featured on "60 Minutes" Sunday only got approximately 1,000 signatures and MOST of those signatures have turned out to be retired or 'fake' military NOT active duty as their petition claimed. For this reason, 1,000 on this particular petition is QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!
bnelson44: I think you should make Melanie Morgan (and FR's Kristinn) aware of this petition so that she can promote and publicize it in conjunction with her 'caravan' to Washington DC!!!

I think the slow going is two fold. First, many of our service members are unaware that the petition exists. We need to get the word out to them, I've already Emailed it to all of my active duty friends and will post paper copies on bulletin boards locally (FT Lewis). Second, many soldiers don't realize that this is something they can sign without some sort of repercussion. Again, the word will get out. All the military folks I know are fed up and pissed off.

All the military folks I know are fed up and pissed off. LOL! I saw an old friend yesterday who is a COL in the reserves. After talking for 2 minutes about my son, I spend the next 1/2 hour listening to him vent about congress!

Bless his heart. What would really help would be a mention on the first hour of Rush's radio program since it is on the Armed Forces Radio.

I am. If he covers the 60 minute story it would be great if he mentioned the decent petition.

DrDeb, thanks, once again, for providing accurate info. Sean Hannity mentioned last night a petition with 1000 signatures from military people who no longer supported the mission. I was concerned that this petition was that....
Hannity will present 'the other side' (the side 60 Minutes won't show) on his Sunday night show.
