LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- We've seen plenty of political moments at the Oscars before. But on Sunday, we could see the most unusual political moment ever.
Consider this scenario: It's Academy Awards night. Best documentary feature is up. And the Oscar is favored to go to . . . "An Inconvenient Truth," starring former Vice President Al Gore.
Lawrence Bender, producer of "An Inconvenient Truth," and the film's other producers come up to accept the Oscar -- with Gore. (Watch Bender explain while it might be Gore's time )
The audience roars its approval -- this is liberal Hollywood -- and Gore speaks.
"There's even some speculation that he would use his Oscar as the occasion to announce that he's running," Martin Kaplan, director of the University of Southern California's Norman Lear Center, told CNN. "Imagine that: a billion people worldwide! Take that Jay Leno, as an announcement venue!''
Could it happen? Gore's producer thinks a potential Gore speech would be a historic moment, but not the way Kaplan envisions.
"It's electrifying, not politically, because is Al Gore going to run or not going to run. There's nothing going to happen like that," Bender told CNN. "It's electrifying because the man who is responsible for solidifying the forces around global warming is going to'' be acknowldged.
But could an Oscar start the momentum for a draft-Gore movement? USC's Kaplan thinks it could.

That depends on whether ABC wants to lose even more audience share than they've lost in the last several years broadcasting the Academy Awards.
Let us kneel down and worship the Gorebacle... saith the unwashed.
I don't even know what movies came out last year. Oh, the Prestige, I keep hearing adverts for it over and over.
This year at least has Spider-man 3 coming out and Aqua Teen Hunger Force the Movie Show for Theaters coming out.
Number 23 sounded interesting but it's being panned over at Rotten Tomatoes but probably I'll end up seeing it. It sounds good. And just because a movie is bad doesn't mean it's not watchable.
That's right. His name was not listed among the producers. Bwaaaaaaaaaah!
1st, if he does, no one of any importance will be watching and, 2, if they stick to the rules from previous Oscar speeches, he won't have as much time to say thanks as he did for the Tipper kiss. And, 3, no one will care anyway.
What,is Gore now too fat to walk up to the stage?Dangle some carbon credits in front of him for motivation.
"Let us kneel down and worship the Gorebacle... saith the unwashed."
Too late, the Obamaist religion has already captured the liberal worshippers.
Uh, I'll be watching my DVD of the Marx Brothers "Duck Soup!"
Gore will go up and speak because there will be no controlling legal authority other than the orchestra conductor and the director of the show who says cut to commercial. :)
Gore has had seven years to script his comeback. The video...the Obama parade which forced Hillary to come out way to early and spend capital...the global warming wave going across soccer-mom America...this all adds up. Assume he wins a oscar at the ceremony...and hints of more things to come. Consider the concert episode being planned in July...which he is the main show item. All lead to a high-point by the end of this year. You cannot tell me that he is NOT running for office. He knows the Hillary machine. He knows how she will destroy competition. With Obama...she has to very careful not to upset a huge section of the party....so she is wasting time and focus...way too early.
And consider this...Al barely lost in his last run. GW was almost a even match-up. Both Rudy and McCain stand in the shadow of GW...they aren't in his league. Al knows this. So I'm thinking 2008 will be an interesting year.
1. He's running for president.
2. He will wait as long as possible to announce it. He is being treated like a star. Why invite criticism and have to back your positions (which is what happens when you are a candidate) when you can get free media by being a movie guy?
3. The result of this will be the launch of various environmental groups/orgs/pacs which will be the backbone of his campaign when he announces.
4. When he does announce, he will play the reluctant hero, drafted into the race because the other candidates are no good.
Yeppers...that is what I heard...he won't be able to go up on stage..
But, if I remember correctly (I don't watch award shows, if I can help it)...most of the media waits off the stage and grab the winners on their way off stage for pictures and interviews.
I betcha the let Gore go to that area...who is gonna tell him no??? (although I wish they would)
Your theory about Gore??
I have a similar theory about Newt Gingrich..and he may follow the same steps you listed..although with different groups calling for his "help".
LOL!!! You did, however, just "date" yourself.
Al Gore couldn't make a bid for a pound of salami at the Deli Counter unless he had a politcal advisor prepare him for such a deep intellectual task.
The reason he talks to everyone like a Kindergartner is because that is HIS intellecual level.
HE'S so stupid he assumes everyone else is, he's trying to explain his "positions" the way they had to be taught to him, like a dummy.
I'm sure his advisors had to lecture to him like he was a Kindergartner. God forbid Gore has to say anything not rehearsed and robotically memorized, there are no neuro transmitters firing in Al Gore's brain. He doesn't truly understand anything he says, that's why he comes off as such a stiff, he IS a programmed robot, a product, a rather crappy product at that.
Left to his own devices he would starve to death, he couldn't answer an unrehearsed question if his life depended on it. If he was ever subjected to a tough interview he wouldn't know what hit him, he would either be totally offended and walk off, or cry. It would like be putting a soft sissy (like Al Gore) in a boxing ring and telling him he has to defend himself, he would immediately assume the fetal position.
If he were actually a MAN with any self-confidence or brains he wouldn't have been searching so DESPERATELY on how to behave like one. Hence the re-creation as "AL-pha Male" what a joke that was, he's about as close to an Alpha Male as Stuart Smalley. People then having to teach him how to dress, "let's try earth tones". His utterly childish "sighing" and foot stomping tantrums in his first debate with Bush (which many liberals thought he WON, because they're also parrots who can't believe anyone doesn't realize than only THEY know everything, their only response is to sigh, shake their heads, look to the sky in disbelief as well)
After that first debate disaster, he had a new identity, a rosy-cheeked Ronald Reagan, trying to remain calm and not throw temper tantrums and sigh like a 2nd grader being scolded while it was his opponents turn to speak. The second the camera came on Gore I almost peed myself laughing about the amount of rouge on Gore's face, I thought he looked like a drag queen. (God help anyone who tried to put rouge on my face!) The ironic part is that he looked like a ventriliquists dummy which is EXACTLY what he is, a wooden, lifeless product carved by politcal Gipetto's trying to sell us this block of wood as a Presidential Candidate.
How many articles were there about "Who's the real Al Gore" if Al Gore actually knew who Al Gore was the question would never have to be asked.
The real Al Gore is a total simpleton. A soft, useless, "man" who had every step in his life laid out for him and followed directions, a rich Nancy-Boy who believed he deserved or was entitled to the path laid out for him. If he was born into a middle class family he would have been lucky to find manual labor as a career path, "tell Dumb Al to clean up"
Its' been my belief all along that Gore has hitched himself
to this Global Warming wagon as a way to get himself back
into the spotlight as a hero.
Many years from now, both he and this whole GW hysteria
will likely be little more than historical footnotes,
remembered as the laughable myths of their day.
Periodic wrinkles and speed bumps....JJ61
