I don't know whether to wish for Iran to fire on our ships, or pray they don't.

"During the Great Prophet 2 missile test in November, the Islamic Republic fired a Shabab missile into the six-mile corridor of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. In such a constricted corridor, the results could have been disastrous."

The odds of Iran making zee boo-boo keep going up.

Carriers need room to maneuver. They are in pretty tight quarters where they are now in case they come into harm's way.

This article is hod wash. There is no plan to attack Iran. Both the Pentagon and W have said so. The Ike doesn't carry 5,000 personnel and the Stennis is a virtual ship./ sarcasm off

We aren't going to attack Iran. It would be stupid now. Jimmy Carter should of done it and it is 30 years tooooo late.

No doubt the Telegraph is privy to our top secret war plans, as all the British press seems to be.

We must launch a very intensive Air War against the islamic terrorist regime in Iran to destroy their nuclear facilities, their military infrastructures, their command and control centers, etc... The terrorist rulers in Tehran must broken and humiliated and they must learn once and for all that they are not going to control the Middle East.

PS: I am watching the History Channel right and they are talking about the 79 F-14 that the US sold to the Shah of Iran before the islamic revolution there. They were saying that after Khumaeini took power the Iranians could not launch missiles from the F-14 for some very mysterious reasons. According to the History channel documentary, some people believe that the American technicians who were in charge of maintaining the F-14's in Iran took with them the electronics that are capable of firing the missiles form the F-14's before they left Iran :)

So the carriers are physically patrolling the water in the Straits or are the jets doing it? Kinda ballsy, if they are!

The English paper picked ARMADA specifically with intent.

This is shades of Nelson vs the Spanish Armada.

They want to encourage the enemy by the reference.

I predict Israel will strike the blow, we are there for backup. If Iran attacks the U.S. forces, Bush has all the excuse he needs.

Israel has gone quite, anyone else notice?

For that reason the deployment of the carriers is designed to intensify pressure on Iran to step back from the brink.

As impressive as the carrier fleet can be, it doesn't compare to the influence our presence in Iraq has in stabilizing the region. if we were to pull out, one would have to ask, "At what cost would it take to reenter the region? Would we have to land by sea and where, assuming we would no longer have any friends? Those who said it was all about oil were right, since the region can, at their choice, destroy the world economy."

I'm sorry to have to say so but even if everything goes bad in Iraq, we STILL HAVE TO MAINTAIN A PRESENCE, AT WHATEVER THE COST.
