You nailed it, as usual. TN did not get my eyeballs, because I do not have cable. They do get my ears, sometimes - I get the audio in XM satellite.
But, most of the time, it is just pap.

I searched that quote thoroughly. Although more than a hundred sources have it the way you quote it, from Mencken himself the quote refers to "underestimating the taste if the American people."

Shuler, the freshman Congressman, is as dumb as a post. When the incumbent, Charles Taylor, reformatted all of the hard drives on the computers in the office, before turning them over to Shuler's staff. But no one on Shuler's staff knew that files can be recovered even after a reformatting.
So, I let them know that was possible.
