Paul Honored as "Taxpayers' Friend" for Tenth Consecutive Year

February 21, 2007

Washington, DC: Congressman Ron Paul has been recognized as a top advocate for taxpayers in the U.S. Congress for the tenth year in a row, earning the nonpartisan National Taxpayers Union’s annual award as a "Taxpayers’ Friend" for 2005. Only 30 of 435 members in the U.S. House of Representatives earned similar honors last year.

The annual NTU rating is based on critical congressional votes relating to federal tax, spending, and regulatory issues. Paul consistently ranks at or near the top of NTU’s scorecard in terms of his pro-taxpayer votes.

Overall, however, Congress is slipping when it comes to serving the least-represented special interest of all—American taxpayers.

"If every member of Congress voted like Representative Paul, Americans could enjoy much lower taxes and less waste in government," stated NTU President John Berthoud. "Overburdened taxpayers in Texas and across the nation owe Mr. Paul a debt of gratitude for his hard work on their behalf."

"While many Members of Congress talk about reducing the size of government, Representative Paul backed up those words with votes. This award proves that he is a consistent and effective ally in our battle to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington."

At this point I'd be happy if we just took the oil until they paid off the debt they owe us, by force if necessary since they really aren't our friends or won't be in 5 years anyhow.

It's cheaper to buy the oil than to take it.

Iraq exports maybe $35 billion dollars worth of oil per year. In total. It's costing us far more than that just to maintain an occupation, let alone rebuild the place. It's a horrible investment, financially, not even counting the non-financial cost in the blood of soldiers.

Iraq -- where the enemies of the Iraqi Government are Terrorists. And for that matter, so is the Iraqi Government.

Let them kill eachother, without anymore hundreds of billions of dollars a year and thousands of US lives being poured down the sinkhole that is Iraq.

The liberals have produced and endless stream of "doctored" information and many examples have been uncovered.

To post that kind of slanted trash (undocumented) on this forum is insane.

Did you possibly mistake us for DU, where innuendo is accepted (anything goes)?

I'm just saying people fling around the word traitor until it becomes meaningless.

Not at all!

We are at war in Iraq and what he did helped the other side and discouraged our troops.

Secondly, all he did was political posturing. It was a non-binding resolution measured to make political points from the anti-war crowd and solicit money from the likes of George Soros. He already knew the resolution had no real effect on what was going on, so it was purely for show, and I'm glad he "showed' us early on.

Ron Paul now stands a snowball's chance as he has nearly equaled Kerry's remark about ending up in Iraq if you fail to get a good education.

I'm enjoying watching how long the "passengers on this Titanic" will keep up their spin and endless replays of resources produced by liberals. It appears they've already "sent in the clowns".

Sooner or later a person catches on to what's actually working and what is not. Knowing when to fold 'em saves a lot of time, energy, resources and, later, embarrassment.

The Ron Paul Campaign after his non-binding, useless, "show for anti-war donations" vote in the House:

Now I can watch to see how long it takes the "Ron Paul Lemmings" to figure out what's happening to them and their sinking campaign. How deep does it have to sink before reality sinks in?

I guess the fact that he voted with John Murtha and Nancy Pelosi sailed right past you.

Why am I not surprised?

Why don't you post some of those encouraging poll numbers to show me I'm wrong and he's going to win the presidency in 2008?

Victory is a stable democratic governement in the middle east where its citizens can go vote for its choice of elected leaders.

FINALLY!!! a definition!!! A stupid lame, and shortsighted one, but at least we have a DISCERNIBLE GOAL. Better than anything I have seen out of the Bush camp yet.

Tell me, how many free elections do we give em till they elect the right people? We gave em one. How many more and how long do we stay till they do it the way we want them to?

Our military asked for additional troops to help end this war.

And the government wants your tax dollars to eradicate poverty. Do you fall for that one, too?

Do you have any idea how stupid your reply was? You've only been with us since December of 2006, so don't be too hasty passing judgement on the rest of us.

What is it about some freepers that makes them think that bilge gets transormed into gold if you have been around long enough? If my 100 year old grandmother says something stupid, the fact that she is 100 years old doesn't suddenly make it wise. It is still stupid, it is just OLD and stupid.

The liberals have produced and endless stream of "doctored" information and many examples have been uncovered.

No one is arguing that liberal sites are always truthful. Are you really so dense as not to see the difference? Can you say "unsupported middle?" Do you even know what that phrase means?

Did you possibly mistake us for DU, where innuendo is accepted (anything goes)?

Honest to God, I really cannot tell the difference sometimes. The ONLY difference is which side is being argued, but the tactics, ignorance, shrill adhomeniems, and inability to do anything but screech out the party line is NOT confined to DU by a long shot. Witness these threads where Ron Paul, who is as honorable man as ever walked the US Congress is called a traitor, a coward, scum, and is accused of turning his back on our military because of a vote that is consistent with his principles....., on which he has been consistent and articulate.

Again, reasonable men can and do differ and I don't expect everyone to agree with him. However, to engage in the type of irresponsible name calling that has gone on here make me want to do a little of my own....., so here it is: That kind of behavior is irresponsible, stupid, cranially vacant, neurally impotent, asinine, howling gibberish, imbecilic, bawling nonsense, behavior of those who spout tripe and think they are "defending conservatism," narrow (would have said 'narrow minded' but I gagged on the second word.. far too much credit to them), cranial poofters, cognitive ciphers, mewling neurotics who posit bilge as genuine weighty material to debate, neurasthetic amputees who can't tell the difference between knee jerk reactions and reasoned positions (crap, they have not "reasoned" anything in so long they don't even recognize the process), social retards whose idea of disagreement is to bloviate semi-intelligible verbal piddle with the confident air of one who has just unscrambled Zeno's paradox. Untouchable in their ignorance, and unstoppable in their arrogance and disdain for those who have strayed from the "truth," they recite half truths and platitudes and buncombe and are convinced they are true bulwarks against the tide of socialism and moral anarchy which seek to engulf the society. Brittle, inflexible, hateful, pompous and yet stupid, shallow, uninformed and secure that arguing for more and more statism in the name of "conservatism" somehow makes them a true cultural hero.

I think they are verbal wankers, intent to demonstrate that every stereotype about conservatives has a prototype flying his banner at full mast.

YES SIR, that shirt is for sale! Try it on and if it fits you, you can just wear it home. Free, with my compliments.

That is problem with people like you that supports this cut and run coward Paul, you equate poverty with terrorism. There is no comparison. The WOT is a far more important than poverty in this country. Terrorism can wipe you, your entire family and friends out in a blink of an eye. You fools will never get it. Paul will never make it to higher office because there are many more of us than those of you that support him and we will make damn sure this clown is kept far far away from the oval office. We will never forget his No vote on the urge. That is his defining moment. BTW your arguments are hollow and you are doing Paul far more harm than good here. Please keep it up because if you are typical of a Paul supporter, "Where's Waldo" will become POTUS before him.

I am applauding you keep it up. You are not helping Paul but hurting him even more, if that is possible. Paul will forever be remembered by the majority of us conservatives for voting no on the surge. He is done.

......"us conservatives".......

Now there's one to weep for. I was reading Hayek and quoting Mises before you were a gleam in your dad's eye. If the "party faithful" here have truly become the spokespeople for conservatives then it is no wonder we are getting killed. The conservative movement itself has been hijacked by statists who believe that waving a flag and singing the star spangled banner will substitute for some type of commitment to liberty and freedom.

That's the whole problem - hardly anyone here has. FR's favorite conservative intellectuals are Ted Nugent, Toby Keith, and Anne Coulter. ;)

Hmmmm....kinda like your hero there ole cut and run coward Paul waving the white flag of surrender in Iraq, while holding hands with Pelosi, so Al Qaeda can take over there and set up a safe haven.

I agree. With friends like these, Ron Paul doesn't need any enemies.

It's almost as if they were out to sabotage his campaign in a reverse sort of way by what they're doing.

Doesn't matter. He's toast anyway and we all know it but some are in denial and can't admit it.

Nah, I just know a sucker never gets fleeced just once.

That's what I'm thinking. How politically dead does Paul's presidential campaign have to get before you figure out what went wrong?

You are already in denial about it and making myriad excuses for his political stage show (non-binding res. vote). He apparently wanted everyone to know about it, so let's just see where it takes him.

Here is the official "Lemmings For Ron Paul" poster:

It is odd to see how his supporters react to those of us that are infuriated with his Iraq sure vote.

You should quit drinking. Put down the bottle, and sleep it off.

LOL Funny. I'm not the one drunk on Bush you are. I wiuld say my total alcohol intake over a 5 year period is less than yours in a week maybe even a single night. Now go sip on your Kool Aid.

Paul voted no on the surge for the same reason he voted no on the Resolution of Uath. of force. NO DECLARED WAR! Plus the nation building going on. If Bush want to nation build let him call Jimmy Carter to do it and let Carter do it on his own dime or W's. Not the taxpayers.

If a Pro-Life, Pro 2nd Ammendment, combat veteran, Reagan Conservative can't get support in a Presidential election where the opponents are Hillary "trail-of-dead-staffers-Clinton and a junior Senator with Hussein in his name...

Then there's no hope for the candy ass Republican party anymore...glad I left 10 years ago.
