With Hollywood as the backdrop, the campaigns of Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama traded furious insults yesterday, each accusing the other of rank hypocrisy as the race for the Democratic nomination erupted in astonishing bitterness.
The ugly bare-knuckle brawl - coming a year before the first presidential primary - was triggered by Tinseltown movie mogul and Obama supporter David Geffen's lengthy disparaging remarks about Hillary and Bill Clinton - his former friends.

I love it when the sissies have a cat fight. Only winners here are all of us, and I hope they keep it up for another year or two. The truth hurts both of them, and I think it is really funny they have this little snit going, as neither of them is worth a tinker's dam.

"While Senator Obama was denouncing slash-and-burn politics yesterday, his campaign's finance chair was viciously and personally attacking Senator Clinton and her husband," Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said."If Senator Obama is indeed sincere about his repeated claims to change the tone of our politics, he should immediately denounce these remarks, remove Mr. Geffen from his campaign and return his money."
The Obama campaign struck back quickly - refusing to apologize and escalating the fight by citing the Clinton White House "Lincoln Bedroom" fund-raising scandal.
"We aren't going to get in the middle of a disagreement between the Clintons and someone who was once one of their biggest supporters," said Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs.
"It is ironic that the Clintons had no problem with David Geffen when he was raising them $18 million and sleeping at their invitation in the Lincoln Bedroom," Gibbs added.
A year from now as primary season reaches its zenith Team Hillary and Team Obama will have escalated to ICBM strikes on each other.
These mean spirited remarks won't feed even one hungry child.
