Giuliani has a tough road ahead in South Carolina, which is to host the first Southern primaries in 2008. His moderate positions on gun control and support for abortion rights do not sit well with the state's Christian conservatives, who accounted for a third of the 2000 GOP primary vote. Those voters swung heavily to President Bush that year, giving him a 2-1 ratio margin over Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was viewed as soft on abortion.
On Wednesday, Giuliani reiterated his own position.
"I'd advise my daughter or anyone else not to have an abortion," Giuliani said. "I'd like to see it ended, but ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose.
"I believe that you've got to run based on who you are, what you really are and then people actually get a right to disagree with you," he said. "And I find if you do it that way, even people who disagree with you sometimes respect you."
Rudy`s position on abortion is no different then other liberals like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Algore and Joe Lieberman.
Giuliani`s pro-abortion position is not a moderate position. Its an extremist position that has lead to the death of almost 50 million potential human beings since 1973.
Anyone who supports abortion on demand has NO respect for human life.
Rudy Giuliani has NO respect for human life.
Rudy is the wrong man to be the GOP nominee.
STOP RUDY 2008 PING
If only these "personally opposed but" officials did everything in their power to get women, or help women, choose to carry their babies. But they don't.
Cuomo, lauded for his intellectual depth in explaining the "personally opposed but" position, said he couldn't impose his personal view on abortion. But he said very explicitly that he would impose his personal view on the death penalty.
Mrs VS
If you think abortion is a constitutional right, then Mrs. Ginsburg becomes a "strict constructionist" on the issue.
That said, the above illustrates why I cannot vote for him. No one has a right to end another life. The woman can choose to not get pregnant BEFORE the baby exists, but not after. Women are given a gift by God in the ability to bear children. But that child is not the woman just because he needs her womb for the first nine months. He will need her body for a long time to come even once he is born.
He is right that people respect honesty. He is wrong that a woman should be given a right to kill her child, whether she is happy about being pregnant or not.
I don't like this guy. He is running as a rep but how can he say he is when he is a demo in sheep clothing. He is a gun grabber and his private life stinks . His wife is a super snob who is out to be first lady. He is going to change the platform to the point you will never even know the rep party. I hope they find somebody else, because Rudy and wife are not reps.
Moderate???
I have a right to choose too, Rudy........I chose Hunter!
Count me out as a Rudy supporter. He flat out lied - Years ago he said he'd pay to have his daughter to get an abortion.
I was hoping Rudy would denounce his past statements on abortion or at least somehow move to the right on the issue. He hasn't.
I cannot support Rudy anymore. I urge other Rudy supporters to do the same.
You guys were right all along.
Rudy is the wrong man to be the GOP nominee.
Amen. Any supporters are probably on the wrong forum.
The first duty of any culture is the protection of pregnant women and small children.
When the culture allows the planned (first degree) murder of the most helpless, it will die from within!
I don't give a rip if every other American besides myself believed that killing a baby in the first trimester was right. It is WRONG regardless of public opinion. I will not now, or ever vote for anyone who supports abortion. Rudy has nothing to offer as President. It's time to move on to a worthwhile candidate and work on getting him/her elected.
I cannot vote for a Pro Abortion candidate.
I hope you don't catch too much fire directed from your formerly-occupied position.
"ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose"
Just occurred to me that this oft repeated phrase is incomplete. Choose what? Choose to kill the baby growing within. Oh yeah, I see it in the constitution now. It was an afterthought written in the margin.
I like Rudy. And I love this forum.
