If you want abortion banned nationally, amend the Constitution. Quit acting like a liberal and mistaking your policy preference for a Constitutional mandate.

First, the Constitution already protects life. It really doesn't need to be amended. But some people are too politically brainwashed to recognized that an unborn child is a human life. So, the Human Life Amendment was proposed which would amend the Constitution to provide a definition of human life to end further confusion. Endorsement of the passage of the Human Life Amendment is in the Republican Party Platform and has been there for decades. Look it up.

Why has it been there for decades with so little action on it? Why is there always all kinds of noise and lip service before elections, we're told it's vital everyone from the president to his cabinet be pro life... and we have elected all kinds of pro life candidates but nothing ever happens on it? I'm quite serious. We always hear what a vital issue a candidate's stand on abortion is... This time we're practically being bashed on the head with it... WHY?

Most candidates would rather die than talk about abortion, and once elected, they won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I think this is true on both sides. Even nominees to the supreme court... the guys we've been told are ones who might ever do anything to overturn abortion, must pretend they've never really thought about it and would only consider it if it's brought before them sometime. So I'm tired of it being the main source of noise and distraction during campaigns, when in reality, nothing ever happens on it anyway.

Abortion is a Red Herring. No one elected today will ever do a thing about it, Just like they haven't in the last decades they've claimed to care about it. We've had a pro-life president and a pro-life majority for most of the last 8, and there was only a little bit of actual action, and not much came of it. Oh - and we got two more guys appointed to the Supreme Court who were able to convince Congress that they hadn't made up their mind but *wink* *wink* *nod* *nod* "I'm with you". IMHO, the momentum to end abortion is more likely to come about because of advances in medicine, not because of anything weak, poll-watching elected leaders (and they all are) will ever do.

Yes it *does* need to be amended. Claiming that prohibitions on government equal prohibitions on individuals -- which is what EV is doing -- distorts the whole meaning and purpose of the Constitution. Criminal law for the most part is a state matter.

It protects life against government.
