The former mayor leads Clinton by five percentage points, 48 to 43.
The Republican Giuliani holds a comfortable lead in the red states, topping Clinton by 17 percentage points, and he is even with Clinton in blue states.
Giuliani has strong support among Republican voters, with 40 percent saying they are likely to vote for him.
Arizona Senator John McCain trails with 18 percent, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has said he may not run if Giuliani holds a commanding lead.
As for the Democrats, Clinton has the support of 38 percent of those polled. Illinois Senator Barack Obama follows with 23 percent and former Vice President Al Gore is third with 11 percent.

That's a fact.
"Hitlery is a very big threat to our personal liberties, freedoms and way of life. I still haven't forgotten the "IRS audits for being an enemy of Bill or Hilary" scandal. Hitlery in power will be like living under Stalin. She has to be stopped at all costs."
I agree. YOU understand. And so do I and some others. But it's frightening to see how even many conservatives run around and claim and believe that there is no difference between Giuliani and Hillary.
Wow. Good thing she doesn't have an "R" by her name, then.
If the candidate sells himself as strong on WOT, he has to be strong on ILLEGAL immigration. Otherwise the back door is left open.
He also has to be strong on defense, and pro Second Amendment.
If we don't protect America first, all other issues become moot.
"If we don't protect America first, all other issues become moot."
What do you think we are doing when we are fighting the terrorists "over there", if not protecting America first?!
I'll fix it.
Gingrich is just another "New World Order" type globalist operative of the multi-national corporations, and the international bankers. (With more baggage than a Fed Ex freight airplane).
You have proven my point.
It's some vague idea about some unnamable group that is going to somehow destroy America/Freedom/Civil Rights/Whatever, in some undefinable way, by international...trade? Cooperation? War? Nobody really knows, and that's the point.
The fact that you are ranting about the council on foreign relations just proves my point further. It's the Lyndon LaRouche talk of the right.
Rudy has GREAT numbers! :-)
Geeze, just throw in the word 'Jew' and you have textbook Nazi propaganda.
I'm not saying your anti-semetic, I'm merely saying that it's conspiracy theory nonsense that has no place in serious discussion.
Not going to happen! Hunter adds NOTHING to the ticket.
LOL
Spot on. :-)
GO away EV; your political "expertise" exists only in your own mind.
Wow. It's still very early but this poll demonstrates that Rudy makes the blue states competitive, while holding on to the red states. That really forces a dem like Clinton to spend a good amount of time and resources on states she would otherwise take for granted.
If Rudy wins only 2 previously blue states, he should clear 300 EVs. I think it;s more likely he would win 1/3 of the Blue states, making it an early night and 'over' before much of the west coast chimes in.
Ironically, I think one of the best choices for VP won't work because of his last name: Jeb.
But since he's a Bush, I think Tim Pawlenty would be a decent choice for Rudy. Haley Barbor wouldn't be bad either. I could even see John Thune.
" I could even see John Thune."
Thune endorsed McCain. I couldn't believe it myself until I read it.
BRAVA; keep hitting 'em all with the facts, Mia!
