If I remember correctly, wasn't there a surface to air missile discovered in a area adjacent to an airport landing strip somewhere in Maryland (or in that region) before TWA flight 800 was taken out. Nobody ever connected the two as I recall!
I haven't come across that in the research I've done. Do you have any further information?
