Yes he can. First step is to put down the rinos.

Agreed!
The media and much of the business community will fight vociferously against stopping illegal immigration, but it must be done.

Too bad the party leadership is rife with RINOs and see being a RINO as the only way to win. 2006 has reinforced that belief, since they will believe now more than ever that they need liberals (or "moderates" as some in the GOP call them) voting for them.
Be interesting to see what happens when they lose again and decide they need to try and get Conservatives back voting for the GOP.

Borrowing for a tagline. You express things well.
... true blue right wing conservatives are growing mighty tired of crawling on bloody stumps looking for scraps.

In the 1994 congressional races Republicans ran on a platform that was conservative, and certainly out of the mainstream as far as campaign rhetoric was concerned. They cleaned the Democrat's clock. And now they want to run candidates that are indistinguishable from Democrats? Good luck...

Unfortunately, we do not appear to have any really solid conservative candidate who is also viable at this time. Based on the candidates we have, it looks to me like it takes five to ten years to really prepare for a Presidential run. The ones who have done that are all kind of squishy.
My usual philosophy is to support the most conservative candidate who has a chance of winning. Sometimes that results in being very disappointed, but it can also lead to some pleasant surprises.

Yes he can. But only if he is a leader, as Ronald Reagan was.
There are no conservative leaders, and there haven't been for many years. I
think this explains Rudy's popularity at the moment. He's may not be a conservative, but he's leader, and that's what people want.

And now they want to run candidates that are indistinguishable from Democrats? Who is they? Candidates have to win primaries. What's the problem? You think conservatives can't win primaries?

Then if the party is so infected with RINOs, corruption, etc., it is time for a new party. Time to gather in a new place. I refuse to simply give my votes to these people and continue to get the same liberal results.

"...Traditional American conservatives are not going to deny our God. Are not going to give up our guns (without using them first). We're not going to surrender to the abortionists or to the gay rights agenda. We're not going to cave to global warming pseudo science. We're not going to surrender our national sovereignty to terrorists, illegals, the United Nations or to Democrats! We're not going to surrender to tax and spend liberal Democrats or to tax and spend moderate country club Republicans..."
That is a great economy-of-words position statement.

No, they'll think they haven't gone "left" enough

A leader to the left is not a leader we need.

Can a Traditional American Conservative Win the Presidency and Secure the Nation and our Liberty? Yes!
Perhaps the better question that some FReepers need to start looking at is:
Can a Liberal Republican in Name Only Win the Presidency and Secure the Nation and our Liberty?
