MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (CNN) -- All Nathan Moore says he wanted to do was smoke pot and get drunk with his friends.
Killing Rex Baum was never part of the plan that day in 2004.
"It all started off as a game," Moore said.
The 15-year-old and his friends were taunting the homeless man -- throwing sticks and leaves -- after having a couple of beers with him.
No big deal, Moore says, but he's sorry for what came next.
It was a mistake, he said, a sudden primal surge that made him and his friends Luis Oyola, 16, and 17-year-old Andrew Ihrcke begin punching and kicking Baum.
"Luis says 'I'm gonna go hit him,' We're all laughing, thought he was joking around,'" but he wasn't, Moore concedes. "We just all started hitting him."

And now it's "sport rape" in prison. Bend over boys!
This murder sounds more vicious than the Matthew Shephard attack but it will never be made into a docudrama or held up as a sign of youth gone wrong.
In this post modern world, everything is a commodity. Commodities are to be consumed. Life is regarded as one cheap commodity. It would be ludicrous to blame abortion for this crime. But abortion is one of the many ways life is cheapened in this country, but nothing cheapens life more than the onslaught of images in media and video games. But again it would ludicrous to blame this crime on the media. But we do have a culture where life is cheap, and shame is hard to come by, a mixture which somewhat explains the crime but does not make it any less shocking to this onlooker.
Sounds like these kids coulda used a spanking.....
Does anyone remember, "A Clockwork Orange"?
A drunkard demanding "law and order".A vagrant cursing "men on the moon" as an outrage... due to his own situation.
Halfway through the film, a pacified Alex (while contemplating suicide) gives money to the very same bum. This empathy means nothing to the bum once he recognizes him.
The irony builds to a climax as the same remorseless toads who once clobbered the bum then appear to clobber Alex.
Still, people watch the whole movie in complete earnest, as if the scenes are remotely realistic.
Not that they "don't get" satire... people just want to be offended by it.
Bush's Fault!
Life without parole. F'em. They forfeited any right to live.
Very true. It is distressing to consider the overwhelming force used by these bullies, and the terror of their helpless victim.
Hopefully neither.
Prison inmates can't vote.
All I can do is shake my head. The kid's main ambition (at 15!) is to drink and smoke pot. I suppose the murder was just something to break the monotony.
I wonder what his parents think about their son.
Goodness! I did not know that is how they killed him. Killing a person is bad enough, but smearing feces and cutting him up, and then leaving him for animals to eat. That is daemonic! That is unbelievable.
Wrong.
These kids are white. So is the victim. Video interview of killer in prison
Our old DA was kinda lazy, he really didn't like to prosecute anyone.
Isn't there a disconnect there?
LOL! Yeah, there sure was. Any right to freedom would be more clear.
Are you racist, and/or proud of it? While I admit there is a greater statistical likelihood of blacks being involved in homicide (per capita), for you to make the assumption that the killers are black says something about you.
You nailed it with this statement.
Supposedly one of the kid's stepmother spoke out on this link. (scroll down a little to a rare opportunity.)

Nice theory ....problem is, the perps who did this (as well as the other crime that was basically identifical to this one) were white. Furthermore they were not from the inner-city.
Actually the only thing true in your post is that they were 'animals' and 'totally out of control.' The rest of it is not worth a jug of warm p!ss on a hot day.
