Syria on Tuesday called for talks with the United States to cover all areas of contention in the Middle East, a state newspaper has said.
"Syria wants to engage in a dialogue with the United States concerning all issues: Palestine, the Golan Heights, Iraq, Lebanon as well as anything else to do with Arab countries," an editorial in the official Ath-Thawra said Tuesday. "Syria insists on a serious and profound dialogue on all subjects without exception," it added.

Ferret Face getting nervous...?
Ok. Let's start with Saddaam's WMD hidden in your deserts...
Talk to Israel about the Golan Heights.
Wonder if Syria thinks we will use them as target practice before going after against Iran for their Iraq attacks on our troops.
Actually, now might be a good time to talk to Assad. I hear there is some real friction between Syria and Iran at this moment and we should take advantage of that.
Sounds like this has potential.
Could it be he has a great view of some carriers?
We could stand to do a good JLOTS over the beaches of Syria straight into Iran.
Is flying "the bird" considered profound? Maybe if we hang our shoes off of it?!?
Maybe Assad has concluded we're really gonna do Iran, which could leave him the last islamo-fascist standing.
That's the official line. There are no Saddam WMD's. Saddam was our guy sorta. He was getting long in the tooth and we needed to intercede before Iran engineered one of those spiffy people islamic revolutions in Sadr City and watched it expand. Our top guys know democratization of the ME in the short term is going to make things worse. Why? Because the idiots over there will vote for what makes them feel good, not what'll make them get ahead. So we let the idiots put a name and a face and most importantly institutional responsibility on the terrorists. We let them have enough rope to hang themselves with their own barbaric stupidity.
Nazism was cheered by just about every German before it ultimately bit them in the arse.
"Do you acknowledge the right of Israel to exist?"
"No?.....F-off."
Whatever the motivation, at least there is an entity there to have discussion with. Unlike islam.
My first thought when I read this was this: Syria is misreading our internal debate on Iraq as a weak-willed American belief that we are losing, and of our newfound desire to give our enemies in the MidEast concessions.
Then, I realized that if the Dems had their way, this would not be a misreading at all.
I agree, but I think we should draw the line at the Golan Heights, unless Israel is represented at the talks as well. Cutting Israel out of the talks when it comes to land under their control is a mistake similar to Chamberlain's when he cut up Czechoslovakia in the 30's. It sets a dangerous precedent.
Assad is no Islamist, but rather a Ba'athist.
His dad massacred thousands of Islamists at Hama.
The Alawites see the writing on the wall. Iran is a greater threat than is the US.
