Why So Much Media Focus on Mitt Romney's Mormon Faith?
Fox News ^ | 2/19/07 | Sevenbak

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MITT ROMNEY, GOP PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL: I think in my view, the people of America want a person of faith to lead the country. They can look at my wife and me and my family, they can see that our faith has made us better people, better Americans, and we share the values of the other citizens of this great land.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BURNS: That was former Massachusetts Republican Governor responding to a question about media focus on his religion. Romney said this week he's running for president, but on the day of his announcement, he woke up to see this headline on the front page of USA Today: "Will Mormon faith hurt bid for White House?"

Jim, let's pretend that's a question asked of you...Click on link for full article.

I (well, via Dick Morris) find it hilarious that of the front-running Republicans, the only one who hasn't had multiple wives...is Romney!

Giuliani, McCain, and Newt.

And then there's Romney. Personally, he's my favorite of the candidates who have announced thus far.

I don't see Duncan Hunter going anywhere.
McCain is nuts and unpredictable.
Giuliani is too liberal.
Gingrich is damaged goods and lacks the charisma factor. Huckabee=Brownback=compassionate conservatives=thumbs down

Must vote for Mitt.

They are trying to get the Christians to mix it up with Romney so that they can call them bigots.

Exactly.

I have never seen Mormons try to force their beliefs on others

LOL! The send armies of young suits to bang on every door and proffer that book of theirs.

They profess Jesus Christ as Savior

They do not!

They think they can attain the same rank as Christ: Man becomes God.

Blasphemy!

I have a pretty good idea of the area you are talking about.

Remember this my GGrandfather, Grandmothers side, had two wives and 21 kids died at 62, my fathers Grandfather had one wife, 11 kids, and lived to 81. It ain't the kids its is the wives, Mormon women of my Grandmothers generation were not the passive creatures they have been portrayed to be.

Northern NJ women, if you can take the noise God be with you, great place, fond memories of my youth.

Are you equating Mormons with that crazed suicide cult?

I am not misinformed. From the official www.LDS.org

Since we could not progress further in heaven, our Heavenly Father called a Grand Council to present his plan for our progression (see Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 348, 349, 365). We learned that if we followed his plan, we would become like him. We would have a resurrected body; we would have all power in heaven and on earth; we would become heavenly parents and have spirit children just as he does (see D&C 132:19–20).

Would you like to set us straight,

Or there is this one:

When we lived with our Heavenly Father, he explained a plan for our progression. We could become like him, an exalted being. The plan required that we be separated from him and come to earth. This separation was necessary to prove whether we would obey our Father’s commandments even though we were no longer in his presence. The plan provided that when earth life ended, we would be judged and rewarded according to the degree of our faith and obedience. We would then be assigned to the place for which we had prepared.

I think we agree about a lot of the issues surrounding Mormonism, but you did parse my sentence in the middle, changing the meaning. I said they did not try to force their beliefs on others, except by persuasion.

I'm looking for some more cooperative, educated, quite types.
Not that easy to find in the NYC area. They think that hating Bush and knowing the positions of the liberal media qualifies them as educated.

Unfortunately I'm not quite agreeing with that.

Okay, now for some silence, the richness of Dexter Gordon on sax and then watch Jack Bauer shoot some terrorists (and hopefully his Dad) on the DVR.

I did that post in several steps and missed one. I was going to quote something, went back and found another, found another, etc.

Sorry about that.

They don't exist, I was, many years ago, looking for the same type in Fort Lee. After auditioning many in the woods along the Parkway, I found that home was where the heart was, it was a disaster, the 60's sucked.

Harry Reid is also a Mormon. There's hardly a peep about his religion from the MSM.

No kidding. How many headlines have you seen that said, "Will Reid's Mormonism Hamper his Efforts to Lead the Senate?" ?

...crickets chirping...

Sooner or later they will just have to realize, they have absolutely nothing to say about it. Since they are all libs anyway!
