I've noticed the rise of a new type of organism on FR in the last year or so. Are they trolls? I don't know, but I do know that even an influenza virus evolves. Not into something necessarily better, just different. The earmarks that I've noticed:

1. Exhibits extreme "conservative" views, but only on those subjects where specific leaders are viewed as a bit soft. Such as President Bush's views on immigration.

2. Tend to be highly inflammatory in their rhetoric. Note the use of name-calling tactics and insulting nicknames. Again, using President Bush as an example, the nickname "Jorge" was quite popular 6-8 months ago.

3. Quick to express discouragement with political leadership. Witness comments like:" I used to support X but I can't anymore because of W, Y, and Z."

4. Spend lots of time online. You have to wonder; do these people have a job? Then you realize....perhaps they're actually DOING their job.

5. Not at all reserved or reflective in their views. Rarely admit an analytical fault.

The problem is I think some portion of these folks are simply bonafide disaffected conservatives. Others are not. And it's darn difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

(Which leads to an ironic question: so what about yours truly? I just thank the Lord for giving me the fleeting good sense to choose a user name that identifies me as a Democrat.)

Begala, Carville, Lehane, McCurry, Lockhart, Ickes, etc.... all worked for Jhon Cari's campaign and failed miserably, especially McCurry with his election night comments about the exit polls.
