if you read alot of the FR political threads, you can see this theme evident right here. many people would rather see Hillary win, then see the social conservatives loose their control over the republican party. they all tell me - "we'll survive the Hillary presidency".
yeah sure, the last time they had it, their 8 years of stewardship led to the destruction of the two tallest buildings in lower manhattan, and the destruction of part of the Pentagon. But "we'll survive" they promise me.
Actually, I've thought of this on a different level. First, I don't believe democrats are anti-war, they are just anti-war if it might make a Republican Commander in Chief popular. The dim media machine does a daily dismantling of any good news while trumpeting the slightest whisper of bad news, vis a vis the war effort.
Conversely, with a dim in power, the press would only report success and downplay failure. Republicans, being patriotic, would also support the war effort.
Thus, and only thus, I am afraid, do we present a united face to our foreign enemies.
I know it's convoluted but it may be the only way to get the country massively behind what it might take to actually win.

I think you are missing the point. Regardless of what you or I say or do, or who we may or may not vote for individually, many of us believe Rudy's liberal leanings and questionable background will not pass muster to the base and the grassroots conservative coalition. He will not receive the enthusiastic support required to win the election. Yeah, it's possible for him to pull in a majority or enough to win a primary, but if he can't turn out the base in the general he will lose. Even a small minority of lost votes from a few of the toss up states will give the Presidency to Hillary. We need to run a conservative that will pull together all of our conservative coalition and have a platform that will rouse the base and the grassroots. We can't have a lot of liberal baggage dragging us down.

Good point. A lot of "principled conservatives" through a hissy fit during the last election and gave the Dems the power to hold the war effort hostage and veto a strong conservative from being the next Supreme Court justice. That one judge could have tippled the balance on Roe v. Wade, for example, but it's not going to happen because of all those conservatives "staying true to their principles".
That far too many here, of all place, refuse to admit that there are gigantic differences between Hillary and any of the top 3 GOP contenders, is astounding. Even worse, is that so many here keep saying how great LIEberman is.

You are right, but then you are thinking of the world and the people in it and the politicians are thinking about politics.
The Rudy boosters certainly do. They deny that's their plan. But it's obvious to the rest of us.
Eight years of socialist stewardship will lose [forever] the battle with illegals and islamic terror. It will be too late. It really won't matter if Republicans get back congress and the White House then.
