Well, since the same judge, Folsom, sat over the two sentencing hearings for Bacos and Pennington, you get a feel for what he thought the relative culpability of both were. He judged Bacos should get 10 years, Pennington should get 14, and both should be dishonorably discharged.
However, with the pre-agreed plea deals, Bacos gets only 10 months and stays an enlisted man, while Pennington gets 8 years and is dishonorably discharged. Seems like a much bigger discrepancy in the plea deals with regard to their culpability. I guess Bacos had a lot more to offer the prosecution and was, thus, rewarded.
Staying an enlisted man could be his worst nightmare.
It's not very full yet. It's mostly links to every NC Times story, but it's a start. Now I can fill it with other stories and commentary (of which there hasn't been much since Bascos made a deal with the devil).
Having a Hamdania page also means I can keep the Haditha page focused.
See you guys tomorrow!
