Girlene I am curious to know why anyone who owes their freedom to the "first in fight" would believe foreign and domestic enemies in the first place.
Well, hopefully most Americans don't. Hopefully, the truth of what happened in Hamdania is more important than proving a premise for the NCIS and prosecution. Two dozen investigators, 7,000 man hours, 100 interviews is a lot of effort - and this is only the NCIS's portion. Wonder how much this would have cost a defendant, out of his own pocket, of course.
Well, since the same judge, Folsom, sat over the two sentencing hearings for Bacos and Pennington, you get a feel for what he thought the relative culpability of both were. He judged Bacos should get 10 years, Pennington should get 14, and both should be dishonorably discharged.
However, with the pre-agreed plea deals, Bacos gets only 10 months and stays an enlisted man, while Pennington gets 8 years and is dishonorably discharged. Seems like a much bigger discrepancy in the plea deals with regard to their culpability. I guess Bacos had a lot more to offer the prosecution and was, thus, rewarded.
I've been looking at some of these reporters:
Iraqis accuse Marines of killing unarmed civilian
By Nancy A. Youssef
Knight Ridder Newspapers
A Knight Ridder special correspondent who could not be named for security reasons reported this story from Hamdania. Also, Knight Ridder special correspondent Zaineb Obeid contributed to this report.
SURPRISE: Nancy worked in Detroit before getting promoted to DC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Baghdad suffers its worst day of carnage in more than a month
By LEILA FADEL and ZAINEB OBEID
McClatchy Newspapers special correspondents Laith Hammoudi, Mohammed al Awsy and a correspondent who cannot be named for security reasons contributed to this report.
Oh, I found Hashim Ibrahim Awad's FUNERAL VIDEO easy enough.
No surprise that ANYBODY'S confused, lily! This is a perfect example of the Chaos Theory.
Staying an enlisted man could be his worst nightmare.
Kill. Or be killed.
It's not very full yet. It's mostly links to every NC Times story, but it's a start. Now I can fill it with other stories and commentary (of which there hasn't been much since Bascos made a deal with the devil).
Having a Hamdania page also means I can keep the Haditha page focused.
See you guys tomorrow!
So two more replies after this one and I'll have made 6,666 replies in my time at FR. Hope that'll be a lucky number.
You have been busy with the Hamdania page. Very high brow place to check out:) Good luck with your 6666th reply.
Just in case it is lucky...
MAKE A WISH!
It's a biggie WISH for the Marines. We always get what we want.
Let us hope a large number of Americans as well as our supposed allies, world wide do realize these brave men and women are doing their best under often extreme conditions, and sometimes simply do not have the options one is afforded in a civil society where people are not running around with guns and bombs strapped to themselves.
What an awesome job you have done with this link. There's a little typo near the end under A Military Justice System Gone Amok. The title for the link to Donald King Case should be Daniel King Case.
Great work!
Good job on all the Hamdania information. I don't think Bacos gets a general discharge. I think he will remain enlisted until 2008. I read this somewhere, but couldn't find it for you, so you may want to leave it as is.
One question that's been nagging me throughout this case is:
WHERE IS SALEH GOWAD?
This whole case has centered on killing the wrong guy when the unit originally wanted Gowad. What was he wanted for, where is he now, and how was he connected with this family? Gowad was supposedly a neighbor of Awad. A cousin and a brother were also neighbors. Where does Gowad fit into this neighborhood/family scheme and where is he now?
You could not have planned this to happen: after your Young and Restless crack, "cricket" posted a response. Now I do not watch YNR, but I do know there is a Cricket on the show, Chuckles! I am a wishy washy Days fan.
BTW, MR GUIDING LIGHT...can we fight crazy with crazy? I will frpmail my whacky idea.
