Duncan Hunter, I'm tellin' ya! So far no dirt...

DH has been in a gerrymandered district, and hasn't ever had big league political opposition to dig up stuff. DH was involved in the House bank check writing brouhaha. DH remains largely unvetted, which represents a risk to his candiancy, not an advantage.

DH to his credit has been married only once, but curiously, we never see his wife. The candidate's wife can be a significant asset.

So DH is relatively neutral as regards ethics, etc. No glaring problems, but neither proven free taint free. Married but once, but no use of wife to burnish his appeal.

Well, the George Allen people could tell you that - if there were any left.

I would have thought by now that people would realize it's not the skeletons from your past that people know about that will do you in - it's the skeletons in your closet that come out at a time not of your own choosing that will doom you. President Bush almost found that out the hard way with the DUI. I think the release of all this damaging information on Rudy now is a brilliant move by his team, and yes, I think they wanted it this way. Get it all out now, let everyone see it and pontificate about it before the real campaign starts.

Probably because he respects her enough not parade her around like a whore...

Speaking of his wife, Lynne, Hunter likes to tell the story of when he recently asked her if they could host a fund raiser.

I'm still looking for the exact quote, but she said something like 'Well, our house just burnt down [and something else] ~ how many should we invite?'

The lady's got GRIT!!!

In spades!

(Their Alpine house burnt down in the 2003 Cedar fires.)

There's a story published somewhere (seen it twice in the last couple of days) that his wife troopered up and had a fundraising dinner two weeks after they lost their home in a fire. I'd call that pretty moxy. I agree we haven't seen much of her, but that's a pretty good sign to me. Time will tell - I'll take not much of a picture over the ugly pictures of McCain and Giuliani and the funhouse mirror, constantly changing picture of Romney at this point.
