I'm not surprised that his aide sounded like that. I live in Jacksonville, NC, the home of Camp Lejeune MCB and the 1/6 Marines, many of whom are currently serving in Iraq. This county has been very good to Walter Jones and has supported him in his congressional campaigns. I was listening to just a few minutes of a local talk show on the radio on my way to choir last night and heard several callers vowing to never vote for him again.

The show is actually broadcast from a station in Carteret County, and Rep. Jones had apparently been on the show earlier in the afternoon talking about the resolution. Jones's father previously held the seat as a Democrat and at least one of the callers said that he thought that his action is just a preliminary to his changing his party affiliation back to Democrat. I don't think he will do that because he is conservative to the point of almost being reactionary. He, at least, is more honest than many of those who voted for the resolution because, although he originally voted to support the war, he has been talking about bringing the troops home for over a year.

Be that as it may, I think that this time he has gone too far and is in real trouble. I don't think that he could be beaten by a typical Democrat, but he could certainly be beaten in the Republican primary or in the general by a conservative Democrat.

Jones and the rest of the white flagers have to pay. For sure the young Marines in Iraq will.
