The Star Tribune is looking for a new publisher. Keith Moyer announced Friday that he was stepping down from that position which he had held for six years. Moyer said that it was a "tough" decision to leave the Star Tribune and that his departure is in no way related to the newspaper's sale to Avista Capital Partners.
"I say this unequivocally: I haven't been fired. Nor have I been asked to leave," Moyer said as he spoke to employees Friday morning. "I am not leaving because of the change of ownership. I have decided this is a perfect time in my life for me to take a late midcareer break -- to stop and smell those cliched roses, to devote more quality time to myself, my family, friends and other interests. I am blessed with this opportunity and I have decided to not let this chance pass without doing so."
Moyer will stay on as publisher until the Star Tribune's parent company McClatchy finalizes and closes its sale to Avista Capital Partners. The sale is expected to be completed in early March. Chris Harte will act as interim publisher when Avista takes control of the newspaper.
Moyer's resignation was the second major announcement at the paper this week. On Wednesday, Nancy Barnes was named as editor of the nation's 12th largest newspaper, and the first woman to the newsroom's top editing position.

Interesting.
Few newspapers hold my scorn as much as the Red Star does.
Their liberalism, extending out beyond the editorial pages to the news pages, has become a strange hybrid of in your face condescension.
I hope to soon hear of Nick Coleman, Lori Sturdivant, Jim Boyd, etc. being given their walking papers by the new owners. I've got my fingers crossed.
They're dying, Steve - newspapers. Dying a screaming death. Choking and puking up blood and guts.
I absolutely love it...
