Vista is Microsoft's "New Coke"!
"Please give me a couple of good reasons why I should upgrade my PC to Vista."
That's your choice, if you're relying on me or magazines to give you reasons then don't bother upgrading.
I just happen to like allot of the associated features and variable speed improvements.
You can actually use a USB 2.0 based thumb drive as system cache if you feel the need instead of just adding more ram.
It also has a predictive application system that makes note of what programs you use most often when you start your computer and loads those into memory when the computer starts so they respond faster.
(meaning, if you browse the web and do email most it will load those programs into the system cache to speed things up)
yes, but they probably wanted one. the problem with Vista is that nobody (except for the *really* stupid) really wants it
I think we need to get St. Al oGre in here. This is clearly a catastrophe on the order of "Global Warming", and the government needs to step in IMMEDIATELY!
And Microsoft has forgotten that many more persons are using them as well. Persons who do not need their bloated programs and a top of the line in performance computer. Most persons want a home computer for sending e-mail, downloading and burning music, storing pictures, doing basic home book keeping etc.
Most do not want nor need all the bells and whistles. Most more experienced users do not want to except such bad ideas as the VISTA user agreement. IOW MICROSOFT stopped listening to it's customer base and listened more to such groups as the recording industry etc. XP is a decent pretty much trouble free system that can operate on about any computer 3 years old.
Microsoft is making some significant blunders as of late like IE-7 another dog it created. It works great for DSL/Broadband users. It stinks on dial-up {still a high percentage of users on on such} as it ties up your connection talking to M.S. hogging your connection. There is no warning about this but I have seen many post in FR because of it. I un-installed it after about an hours time. Also the Icons were the pits and they added extra steps to what was easy task such as getting into favorites. I'll keep IE-6 and XP. My next computer unless M.S. changes direction will have LINUX.
It is just more FUD
from the Apple-loving press.
This week's EWeek says
rumors are that Jobs
will soon step down because of
the back-dating mess,
and they'll spin it as
as a "temporary" thing.
But it doesn't hurt
to pump up the buzz
meanwhile against Microsoft.
It's just press prattle.
One of my favorite scenes from the South Park movie was when Bill Gates was executed because of Windows 98.
I actually removed the first beta also, hated it
then tried the RC2 and loved it.
And I now run Home Premium and have no complaints, runs all my applications I normally use, runs all my games, and runs them just as fast if not faster than XP did.
As some one pointed out earlier, it's allot of the underlining behind the scenes technology that was updated, just like going from Windows 98 to 2000, looks is almost the same but the engine under the hood is far different.
None the less, Windows is not and hasn't been Microsoft's cash cow for some years now, they could give it away free and be ok, they just charge what they do to make up a few bucks on the back end to help cover development costs.
They make their money off of Office and enterprise level apps and OS's and various other little areas.
Oh Yea and M.S. has yet to apologize to the world for creating WINDERS M.E. a real piece of garbage.
All of which means many people will not buy a Vista computer until they happen to need a new computer. I find this all uninspiring because wasn't Vista delayed quite a bit in the first place?
If writing a Mac virus was so trivial as you claim, they would have been infected by now. The hackers have tried countless attacks on Macs and failed miserably because Mac OS X is designed to have better security than Windows.
There must be at least 25 million Macs on the Internet - like sitting ducks - a big, fat target without anti-virus software or Windows Defender subscriptions. Yet there are zero viruses circulating in the wild for Macs. The track record speaks for itself.
Meanwhile, vast numbers of Windows PCs have been turned into spam-spewing bots. A couple of weeks ago, a million PCs were hijacked to attack the Internets root servers.
I didn't buy a Mac for price alone. Their laptops are twice as expensive as a Compaq or what have you.
Nice, yes. A luxury. But not really necessary.
Then it really sucks.
You must not use remote desktop much as it was left out of Home Premium in order to force people to buy the incredibly expensive "Ultimate Edition"
Hillbilly Steve Balmer needs a vacation. I wonder if Bill had a few words with him since the press conference...
