As the skin of the onion is slowly peeled away, we start to see that the St. Rudy supporters are not just backing him because he is the only hope of winning, but they are starting to reveal that they are in agreement with a large percentage of his liberal social views. (if not all)
The repugnant venom directed to the core of conservative social beliefs is just appalling by these Liberal Republican supporters on the FR. It is in many ways disheartening to see how the St. Rudy supporters are so affirming of St. Rudy, and defend his beliefs and his Liberal doctrine as something that was in the past and not part of his current beliefs.
As St. Rudy is continued to be painted as a righteous (real conservative) leader for America by his supporters, his FR supporters will start flipping their cards over to reveal that their personal convictions are in concert with Guilianis.
Exactly.. especially here at Free Republic..
Here, hear...well said.
Bingo! After the 2006 elections it was the stay at home conservatives, independents, libertarians. I submit that those 3 showed up and pulled the R more than them.
You nailed it. This train is being driven by pro-aborts who don't care one way of the other about the Second Amendment. And they loathe conservatives.
No skin to peel here.
If the only reason for backing Rudy vs. Hillary is that "he is the only hope of winning", I will GLADLY back him for EXACTLY that reason.
We cannot, must not, give Hillary a win.
And I don't care WHO we have to put up on our side to beat her.
Actually, the guys I'd like to see win would be either Newt or Tom Tancredo. But they ain't gonna win. No way, no how. I know that, and so do you.
I want someone who can beat Hillary. And frankly, I don't care what the victory costs.
I don't care about the "social issues".
I don't care about principles. And yes, I mean that.
I want the Republican candidate to win.
And I want Hillary to lose.
It's that simple. Of course, I'm a simple guy (laughs).

I think this bears repeating. The mania for Rudy is otherwise inexplicable. I mean, they might as well be cheering for Obama . . . or Joe Biden. Those guys are not Hillary either. But the point is to eliminate social conservatism from the Republican Party and turn it once again into a playground for country-clubbers and libertarians, as it was in pre-Reagan days. These people would back Gerald Ford if he weren't so obviously dead. I'm surprised they haven't united behind Jim Jeffords for Veep.
