"Once I have elected to send my child to public school, my fundamental right does not allow me to direct what my child is exposed to in the public school," said the school's lawyer.... Excuse me?! What about a government by the people, of the people and for the people? If the schools use OUR money, we have a right to speak out about how OUR schools are run.

Even more to the point, public school is not an elected choice, it's compulsory, unless the child attends another school approved by the state.
