H.R. 1022 has been introduced in committee.
From The High Road, where there's lots of discussion and political fingerpointing. Examples:
"Well, all you folks who voted for anyone but a republican now know what the next 2-10 years are going to be like. Maybe longer."
Which was countered by:
"Plus, even if it does pass, all you good Republicans have nothing to worry about because your President will veto it, right? Remember, you guys all said Bush was just playing politics when he said he would sign a new AWB. You guys don't think you are wrong now, do you? Do you?"
Yep. Bush said in the 2004 election that he would sign the AWB renewal if it came across his desk. At the time, he was confident of a Republican Congress keeping that from happening. What could possiblie go wrong? The 2006 elections went wrong, Democrats now control both houses of Congress, and Bush's words are coming back to haunt gunowners.
Still, Bush and a Republican Congress were very good for gunowners. The AWB was allowed to expire in 2004, and the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms act protects gun companies from frivolous lawsuits that were threatening to destroy them.
This renewal probably won't go through, but another one might after the next election. This is exactly why I'm only buying semi-autos between now and the end of 2008. Just in case. If anything is banned it will be semi-automatics. And if they aren't banned outright they will be regulated - as in the 1994 AWB - with regards to magazine capacities of more than 10 rounds and "evil" features like collapsible/folding stocks and flash hiders.
Yawn.
Been hearing that one for a couple decades.
When is "24" on?
You are absolutely correct. Excellent point about how Representative McCarthy has essentially forfeited her right to scrutiny. She could have continued the relative comfort of private-sector existence rather than transitioning to the bright glare of public-sector life.

Maybe they got the idea from the presidential preference polls. If they see that over half of all Republicans think that a proven anti-2nd Amendment gun banner like Giuliani would be a great president, then it's reasonable for them to believe that reauthorizing the AWB and passing even worse gun control laws won't hurt them in the next election after all.
They've learned.
They won't.
They'll stop someone else from doing something you need to exercise it.
Where will you buy your tools, if nobody is selling them?
Different bans. Import is one thing, domestic manufacture is something else. The expired AWB was the latter.
"Time to pick up that Garand I've been wanting."
Get 2.
Won't be on the naughty list if this *&%# goes anywhere.
Still legal in all 50 and Canada (by specific exemption).
Legal in Chicago, LA, and New York.
Shoots through things that AR's and AK's dent.
Why buy hamburger because someone might try to ban hamburger--steak is on sale NOW and it's a limited time offer.

Get some ammo too---the prices are a song.
The next AWB will be different. They will just outright ban most any semi-auto that can possibly have a hi-cap magazine connected to it. They won't fool around with bayonet lugs.
I also look for them to ban surplus arms and ammo. Yes, all of the affordable military caliber ammo. Kennedy, Schumer and Biden will whip out the old "armor-piercing" ammo argument that all these rifle rounds can pierce a kevlar vest. If they have a Dem Congress and a Dem President, bye bye to affordable shooting.
I also fear they will bring back the "arsenal" argument so that if you have a few rifles or a whole case of ammo, you should be regulated like an arms dealer.
There is simply no end to the infringement these people will wreak if there is no one to stop them. I agree, buy all your toys and ammo before the next election.
Which is any rifle bullet more powerful than a .22 magnum. Chances are, if it will kill a deer it will go through a vest like a hot knife through butter.
No Guns ~ No Rights!
But that's not how the Kennedy crowd will present it. I could almost be a speechwriter for the gun-grabbers, they are so predictable.
"We simply have to enact common-sense legislation to get these killing machines off our streets, and the cop-killer bullets that they spray. No one needs one of these weapons of war to hunt Bambi. Our law enforcement officers are in mortal danger, outgunned by street thugs carrying these assault weapons, the weapons of choice of criminals. Imagine terrorists getting ahold of one of these AR-15s or AK-47s. We've seen what a (Muslim) teenager can do with a common shotgun in a mall. We must act now before some terrorist just strolls into a gun show and buys one of these death machines." Lather, rinse, repeat.
My feelings exactly.
If she is still bitter at anyone over the death of her husband or son, can't remember which it was, who was shot down on the train by a madman, she should be bitter at the politicians who enacted the stupid NYC gun laws which prevented anyone on that train being armed and able to stop the slaughter. If a madman began shooting people on a public conveyance in a CCW state such as FL or TX it's quite likely that a legally armed person would be on the bus or train car and could stop the killing, or at least divert the shooter's attention from the unarmed passengers long enough for more help to arrive.
Why is it so hard for liberals to understand that you can't stop armed criminals from commiting crime by disarming law abiding people? Criminals don't obey any other laws which get in their way, so why do they expect them to obey gun laws?
They won't ever stop, not even after they have gotten everything they want. Look at the UK, handguns are totally banned and long guns are subject to so much red tape and expense that many former owners have turned in their hunting rifles and shotguns just to rid themselves of the aggravation and expense of keeping it.A friend of mine who lives in London in summer and in FL in winter got rid of all his guns in the UK and now keeps his FL home well stocked with guns.
But banning all handguns and very severely restricting shoulder fired sporting guns isn't enough for the anti-self defense bunch, now they want to ban many types of common knives, even kitchen knives. When knives are banned it will be something else, maybe sticks and stones?
I was just looking at that sight the other day, looks like everything is sold out except for recievers.
You are not surprised at this I hope. Many have been warning of the results of the Nov election. Others have their heads in the sand.
If "armor piercing" ammo is banned every cartridge that is adequate for taking deer will be banned. My favorite hunting handload for my .30-30 is a 170 grain Remington Core Loct bullet over 32 grains of H4895 propellant. That load will cut a nice clean .308 diameter hole through 3/8" mild steel plate at 50 yds, and is perfectly safe in any .30-30 rifle in good condition.
If hunting ammo is banned maybe then the 20 million hunters who have for the most part stayed out of the fight against the anti-gun bunch will begin voting only for supporters of their gun rights and join one of the pro-gun organizations. If even 1/3 of the 80 million American gun owners would get involved in a pro-gun org and vote only for proven pro-gun candidates, our stolen 2nd Amendment rights would be given back and kept safe for at least another 20 or 30 years.
You asked about this subject on another thread.
Husband. I suspect she isn't bitter at all any more. She is an example of the Democratic political tactic of putting someone up as a spoksperson who has had a personal tragedy so as to limit criticism of their position. I've seen it for decades in the control hearings in the Ga General Assembly. We call them cryers for hire. The anti-gun whores will bring in some kid whose been shot and use him for a spoksperson.
McCarthy is like the Jersey girls hags of 9/11 widowhood fame who make a good living off preaching liberal drivel and getting taxpayer dollars. She's got one of the best jobs in the country. Spending other peoples' money and telling people what to do forcing other people to do what you want and getting paid for it.
