The fact that Mitt Romney is a Mormon is no secret. Scads of stories have been written about that very fact, and it's a regular topic of conversation among Washington's chattering class.
What effect Romney's religion will have on his chances at winning the 2008 Republican presidential nomination is much less clear. Some argue that evangelical voters, a core part of the GOP coalition, will never accept a Mormon candidate as one of their own. Others believe Romney's religion will become a non-issue as the campaign wears on.
Who's right? It's still too early to tell, but a look at recent survey data on the Mormon question suggests that Romney faces real skepticism about his religion among the Republican primary voters he needs to woo over the coming year. Thanks to Washington Post pollster extraordinaire Jon Cohen, we have all that information at our fingertips.
Let's parse the polls!

Romney's religion combined with his flip flops is hurting him at the moment. Romney needs to turn off the slick, and get real, and just let it all hang out, with sincerity. If he does that, he will be in the hunt. If not, his deterioration into an asterisk will continue.
No evangelicals till they get that bible thumping, TV preaching, dirty deed doing stuff squared away...
Your foot now, eh?
Amen.
I'm not ridiculing you. You need to look up the term so you'll use it correctly.
The love of Christ was visible for those who wished to see it. Knowing who I am... and placing myself in that time period, I would have believed in Jesus, if I had encountered Him. I feel this way because I know the map of my own heart and what it needs to thrive.
Those who believed Christ was a evil, were not being faithful Jews... if they were faithful, then they would have been Christians. All of the information was right there for them to see. They chose NOT to see. His glory was not hidden, it was not only for the learned to see. All anyone had to do was LOOK.
I am putting you on my Romney gets the nomination ping. In fact, I will bet you $100.00 cash that he gets the nomination in the end. Put your money where your mouth is.
Romney's profession of faith is not a Mormon thing ... we have no right to decide whom is Chrisitan and whom is chrisitian ... in the issue of Christian, for those who profess Him as Lord, leave it to the Holy Spirit to settle the issue.

Yeah, I would rather have Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Baker than terrible ole Mitt. You funny. And ignorant
They KNOW if he wins the Republican nomination he can win the presidency. He scares them to death!
The great deception is not the issue ... yet. Do you want to make the issue?
You are ignorant and welcome to FReerepublic
I agree with you entirely....but I'm just saying that many in mainstream churches are very suspect of the Mormon faith in general....and you know fear breeds contempt and all other things.....right or wrong.....
WHY DO YOU THINK THE MEDIA IS EVEN MENTIONING MITT IF HE IS "NOT EVEN ON THE RADAR"? Fear is a good thing.
Do I want to make the issue?....I don't understand...I'm telling you how others feel about the issue
Mitt's religion is of no concern to me whatsoever. I have some other concerns, but at this time I support Mitt above all others for the presidency!
You need to look at your concept of mainstream ... there are many Mormons who are/were Christians before becoming Mormons ... I have close, intimate expereince with same, so this is not a theory with me.
Nothing secret about it. As a matter of fact if you give me your address, I'll have two bright young enthusastic young men in white shirts and ties sent to your house. They will answer all your questions and even give you tons of free literature including a Book of Mormon.
What is so secret about that?
