Tim Hardaway: 'I Hate Gay People'

cbs4.com

Feb 14, 2007

(CBS4) MIAMI Former Miami Heat superstar Tim Hardaway told a local sports radio show that he “hates gay people.”

Hardaway made the comments while he was being interviewed by Dan Le Batard on 790 the Ticket Wednesday afternoon.

The five time All Star was asked how he would deal with a gay teammate.

“First of all I wouldn’t want him on my team,” said Hardaway. “ “Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I don’t think that’s right and I don’t think he should be in the locker room when we’re in the locker room.”

Le Batard took Hardaway to task, pointing out that his comments were “flatly homophobic” and bigoted, but that only seemed to stir up the former point guard.

“Well, you know, I hate gay people,” Hardaway said in response to Le Batard. “I let it be known I don’t like gay people. I don’t like to be around gay people. I’m homophobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it.”

Hardaway’s comments come on the heels of a groundbreaking revelation made by former player John Amaechi, who became the first professional basketball player to openly identify himself as gay.

Amaechi became only the sixth male atlhlete from one of the four major American sports (NBA,MLB,NFL,NHL) to admit he is gay.

Former NFL running back David Kopay , offensive lineman Roy Simmons and defensive lineman Esera Tuaolo just recently came out.

Glenn Burke, an outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics in the 1970s, and Billy Bean, a utility player in the 1980s and 1990s, have also come out.

No player has ever publicly admitted to being gay while currently playing for one of the four major American sports.

From what I've learned on FR lately, I guess he won't be voting for Rudy...

But Tim is not pigmentally-challenged, as was Rocker, so he may have it a little easier.

You're probably right, unless he in any way supports the GOP, in which case he will have it much worse than Rocker.

Unfortunately, Rocker was melanin deficient.

What Tim really meant was he sees gays as deviants, ie people either suffering from a genetic disorder, or having consciously chosen an alternate lifestyle as a sort of rebellion against conventional societal norms, and that he is sick and tired of gayness being shoved down people's throats all the time and everywhere in the liberal media and elsewhere, with people not just being forced accept that being gay is a normal state for humans to be in but that in fact it is the preferable one and should be celebrated as an achievement.

In other words Tim hates the Gay Agenda. And a good majority of people in this country share his sentiments.

It's refreshing hearing a public figure shove political correctness down the toilet where it belongs.

The guy's choice of the word "hate" is poor and it's too bad he said it because the homosexuals are strongly behind efforts to enact hate speech laws and destroy free speech in America: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54235

Btw, homosexuals on average die around age 40. It's a horrible way to live and die, and people caught in this death trap are to be pitied. The best we can do is tell them the truth in as kind a way as possible. It's too bad some churches are lying to them and calling it love.

"Sharing a locker-room with someone who finds you sexually interesting, but in whom you have no interest, is odious."

Bull's eye. Hardaway's aversion to the idea of a homosexual teammate would be normal for a professonal athelete for the same reason that the presence of openly gay men in the military is proven to be devastating to morale. It means taking showers with them. The criticism is just cheap talk by one more sleazy sports announcer.

"It's refreshing hearing a public figure shove political correctness down the toilet where it belongs."

It's also disturbing to think how badly Tim is gonna get crucified by the media for having an opinion.

This is America, you have the right to be stupid and wrong. The media proves this fact to us everyday.

The above supports Rush Limbaugh's thesis that the sports media is as leftist as the news media.

That's because they're cut from the same cloth. I didn't understand how our sports-talk guys here in Philly could be such wusses and lefties until I realized that nearly all of them moonlight (or sunlight) as newspaper columnists.

As for Hardaway's comments, he's out of line only to the extent that one shouldn't hate the mentally ill. You should love them, be compassionate toward them, and try to help them escape from their depravity.

Anyone who ever saw Tim Hardaway play knows he's a man, something Dan The Bastard will never be. I sent ESPN and Budweiser emails telling them I will not watch sports or drink Bacardi until ESPN fires Le Batard. I urge all you freedom-loving sports fans to do likewise. Whatever happened to, "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? I guess Voltaire is out of vogue with The Left. Freedom of Speech means being free to offend. If we don't defend our freedoms we lose them. Most of the Bill of Rights is a memory now.

Although not too smart, the guy is a has been and nobody will care. If he has sponsors though he may lose them. Anybody who says things like that best be "former".
