WASHINGTON - The House's debate over Iraq turned deeply personal Thursday as opposing groups of warriors-turned-lawmakers recounted their own riveting stories from World War II through Iraq.

Eager to trade on the veterans' credibility, Republican and Democratic leaders yielded microphones on and off the House floor to veterans whose private pain gave the discussion the weight of experience.

The war storytelling was expected to continue through the week, with floor speeches Thursday from such Republican veterans as Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record) of California, a decorated Vietnam veteran who is running for president.

Hope this hasn't already been posted. If it has, my search missed it. I'm a little puzzled by the "Thursday" in the first sentence, since the article is dated as of Tuesday.

They are suppose to be talking non-stop for 3 days. They want to give everyone a chance to make a speech.

Should be going on now on http://www.c-span.org/watch/cs_cspan_wm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS

The speaker on the floor right now said the troops are listening to every word spoken from them. I can almost guarantee you that the troops in Iraq are NOT watching c-span

If you know anyone in the active force, please point them to the following site:

http://www.appealforcourage.org/

This site allows active duty military to (legally) tell Congress and the media that they should support our mission, and that their criticism does hurt our morale while emboldening our enemies.

Please pass the word to all your ping lists.

While I respect and appreciate every speakers contribution, at this point it doesn't mean sh!t. Every one of those individuals should know that every negative word spoken about our troops emboldens the enemy. That is the only thing that matters and if they don't get that then they are a just a sorry lot.

Another Rat Party* Jane Fonda / John Kerry Winter "Soldiers" Investigation?

Have the Rats' and their "eye witnesses" been vetted this time?

Did any of them actually serve and personally witness what they claim? My sincerely felt thanks to all who are honest and did actually serve. Contumelies for the Rat liars.

* At the time of the original Winter Soldiers Investigation the Rats were not yet in command of the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party. It was still a legitimate and honorable American political party.
