4 ex-militants in court for hearing on '71 SFPD cop murder
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/14/7 | Jaxon Van Derbeken

Posted on 02/14/2007 3:26:39 PM PST by SmithL

Four former militants appeared in shackles at a raucous court hearing today at San Francisco's Hall of Justice on charges that three of them murdered a San Francisco police officer in 1971 and the fourth took part in a larger conspiracy to target police.

Many in the courtroom applauded as the alleged onetime members of the Black Liberation Army entered, triggering an immediate order by Superior Court Judge Donna Alyson Little to clear the court.

As the defendants' attorneys objected to Little's order, the crowd --

now outside the courtroom -- chanted, "No justice, no peace.''

Eventually, Little relented and let the supporters return as long as they promised no further disturbances. She threatened to permanently bar anyone who disobeyed.

The judge then read the murder charges against Henry Jones, Richard Brown and Ray Boudreaux in the Aug. 29, 1971, shotgun shooting attack at the Ingleside police station that killed Sgt. John Young and wounded a clerk.

The fourth defendant, Richard O'Neal, is accused of a larger conspiracy to kill officers, but is not accused in the Young killing.

The four did not enter pleas at their arraignment. Their attorneys have filed motions seeking to have the case thrown out because prosecutors waited more than 30 years to bring charges.

One attorney also objected to the use of metal detectors to screen people coming into court, something Little said was under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Department. All the attorneys vociferously objected that their clients had to appear in court in shackles.

"It makes our clients look like dangerous men -- there seems to be no reason for it,'' attorney Stuart Hanlon said outside court, speaking on behalf of the other lawyers in the case.

""It makes our clients look like dangerous men -- there seems to be no reason for it,"

Should read, "It makes our clients look like -the- dangerous men -they are-."

I didnt hear of any white people going to cheer and protest the arraignment of Edgar Ray Kilen who was arrested for the murder of civil rights workers 40 years ago.

Why do blacks think their killers should be cheered for plotting against and murdering police oficers? These self-same jackasses would be cheering the arrest of the white man.

Thanks for posting this, my family is close to the Radetich family that is still seeking justice from these 'bring it all down' types.

We are all hoping this will be solved soon.

Why are the perpetrators and their raucous supporters shouting, "No justice, no peace''?

This is the reason these people are still being sought after 30+ years!

I think we know enough about this judge, merely from this one story. She cannot control her courtroom and will therefore be another Lance Ito. Look for another OJ verdict.

Don't get your hopes up. The hard left in San Francisco is unlikely to lose something this big. It's clear they're fighting it, and when they fight, they tend to win.

We live in a very unjust world, and San Francisco is a particularly unjust city. The Radetich family needs to understand this now -- so they won't be traumatized later.
They should denounce the disgusting tactics and injustices we will be seeing from these scum, and they should do everything they can to make a nationwide story. But they should also expect to lose. They probably cannot make the "justice" system work for them. But they might be able to win in the court of public opinion.

How do you know that? Do you have special knowledge, or are you just assuming that any Black accused of killing a police officer is guilty?

It's a good rule of thumb that when you see police theater like this, the case is weak.

" How do you know that?"

It starts with, "Four former militants appeared in shackles at a raucous court hearing"

former militants from the 70's? Not violent? No special knowledge and I did not even consider their color unlike you, but I remember those radical militants form the 70's and I remember their rhetoric. I just believe the LEO before I believe the "Four former militants" or their lawyer.

San Francisco's Hall of Justice

Has an oxymoronic tone to it doesn't it?
