The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will host a Republican presidential debate May 3 that will feature questions submitted in real-time via Politico.com.

Former first lady Nancy Reagan is inviting the leading GOP candidates to the first-ever debate at her husband's library in Simi Valley, Calif. "Ronnie always hoped the library would be a place where policymakers will debate the future," she said. "This presidential debate provides the opportunity to fulfill his wishes."

"We are thrilled to partner with MSNBC on what promises to be a historic debate," said Robert L. Allbritton, publisher of The Politico. "MSNBC has established a reputation for outstanding political coverage, and Politico.com has committed to aggressive and innovative reporting on the entire 2008 contest."

Members of the audience watching the debate on Politico.com, the Web site of The Politico newspaper, will submit questions to the candidates. MSNBC will televise the debate nationally and simulcast it on Politico.com. Politico reporters will read questions from the Web audience to the candidates. The debate will be moderated by MSNBC.

The Web site will give readers the opportunity to discuss the debate beforehand and possible lines of questioning. The format, lineup and other details will be announced soon.

"Our aim has always been to give readers not only breaking news and sharp analysis but also the chance to tell Washington -- and the candidates -- about their most pressing concerns," said Allbritton.

Other scheduled debates include:

* April 4-5, CNN, the New Hampshire Union Leader and WMUR-TV will host two debates in New Hampshire, one for Democratic candidates and one for Republican candidates.

* April 26, MSNBC will broadcast a debate between Democratic candidates in South Carolina.

* Sept. 6 and Jan. 22, 2008, Fox News will broadcast debates between the Republican candidates in New Hampshire.

I only expect them to invite the MSM-annointed "popular" people: Rudy, McCain, Romney, Huckabee.

Personally, I am for Romney, but I would love Duncan Hunter too.

I said this many times before and I will say it again:

The only way that Hunter will get traction is if you give his campaign. I'd say give him at least $20. Every little bit counts. Maybe Jim Robinson can organize a pledge effort?

That is a no no. IIRC, that would run in conflict with existing FEC&FCC rules/laws guiding this type of internet setup. FR can't take positions supporting any party politics.

Good, and how appropriate that the only candidate to support the Reagan primary efforts in 1976 & 1980 will be there.
