Obama told a campaign trail crowd in Iowa on Sunday that the nations Iraq war dead were lives wasted but immediately claimed a slip of the tongue. We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted, Obama said on Iraq. I was actually upset with myself when I said that, because I never use that term, he later told the Des Moines Register. Their sacrifices are never wasted . . . What I meant to say was those sacrifices have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission. When asked about the remark during an appearance Monday in Nashua, he told reporters he meant to criticize civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military. Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken, Obama said. Stopping short of a full apology, Obama said, It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any of them felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that theyd shown. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerrys decision to not enter the 2008 race was blamed in part on a bipartisan backlash from his remark that people who did poorly in school would end up stuck in Iraq. He later claimed his remark was misinterpreted and said he was sorry if anyone was offended.

Obama's campaign in the words of Freddie Fender, "Wasted days and wasted nights...." He can't escape the Freudian overtones of that slip. He just wasted his run along with the Baby-Killing Medal-Thrower Kerry.

It wasn't my fault. My tongue slipped. It just sounded like I said "wasted." Really, it was just a sound that accidentally came out.

A slip of the tongue of this sort suggests that he many not be particularly articulate after all.
Now...to address the question of his cleanliness!

Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken, Obama said. Then why didn't he have the smarts and the balls to correct himself right then and there? Answer: Because he's a loser. Not ready for prime time. All talk.

Being sorry if anyone was offended is not the same as being sorry because you were wrong.

...yeah! Actually what I said was 'pasted'. I, er, uh pasted together a scrap book for the brave soldiers of Iraq! Also, I 'basted' a beautiful roast beef that I'm sending to the troops!

By Friday he'll have come full circle and claim that right wing activists deliberately misinterpreted what he said and "took it out of context." His legions of DBM propagandists will then ask if racism had anything to do with it (meaning, of course, that racism had everything to do with it).

I can understand a slip of the tongue.
But the problem with that is, the tongue merely slipped and spoke what his mind was already thinking.

Uh-huh! "Slip of the tongue" means he accidentally said what he really thinks.
This belongs in the same category as Kerry's "botched joke".
