Ted Olson Supporting Giuliani
American Spectator ^ | 2/13/07

Posted on 02/13/2007 12:34:44 PM PST by zarf

Theodore Olson, the stalwart conservative lawyer and former solicitor general for the Bush administration, told the Spectator he will be supporting Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid.

"I admire his character, his capacity for leadership, his instincts, and his principles," Olson said over the phone this afternoon. He said he will help Giuliani raise money as well as offer advice on legal issues and domestic policy matters that involve constitutional questions.

What is Rudy going to do?

If the past is any indication, he'll kill any one he can get his hands on, throw the ones he can't kill out of any organization he's a part of, and prosecute domestic ones very, very effectively.

Let's see - how would a democrat respond to that?

I know - he was mayor of New York!

How would a "social conservative" respond to that?

Do you mean unborn babies or social conservatives?

You are really naive if you don't think that America doesn't already have a strong sense of who Giuliani is. They already know and they already like him.

So, basically, Jihadist die, taxes and spending get cut, criminals go to jail, unions get bloodied, school vouchers have a realistic chance of being implemented, and justices like Roberts and Alito get appointed.

I hope you're right. Despite the understandable cries on FR for a candidate that is Newt Gingrich's brain in Barack Obama's body, the facts point to some undeniable truths. I don't know everything but here is what I do know:

1. Rudy is running for the Republican presidential nomination.

2. Rudy leads other Republicans in the polls.

3. Rudy is outpolling Hillary the Lizard Queen in previously GOP untouchable states like NY, NJ, PA

4. Which leads me to believe that barring his ex wife Donna Hanover coming out with a last minute "swift boat" attack claiming that Rudy is a member of al Qaeda who purposely orchestrated the 9/11 attacks to make himself look good, or he is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby...

You are looking at the next President of the United States whether you/I like it or not.

I wish Newt were electable. He'd be my first choice. I also wish I had a Ferrari and were married to Pam Anderson.

Re: It looks like Olson, would back Giuliani on any infringment though.

"What makes you say that?

From the article. "Olson - whose position as Solicitor General requires him to defend federal laws when they are challenged in the courts - asked the Supreme Court to deny certiorari (decline to review) to two firearm-related cases - U.S. v. Emerson and U.S. v. Haney."

Olsen presented Ashcroft's conclusion, that the 2nd Amend refers to individual rights. He acknowledged that in his request to deny cert in Emerson, but failed to do it with Haney. Haney was found guilty, because he was not recognized as a member of a State organized militia, for the purpose of owning a machine gun.

The second Amendment says, "the right of the people, shall not be infringed." Olsen's arguments in the 2 cases are contradictory, or at least willfully ingnorant and unconcerned, with regard to who the "people" are. Also, there is no logical limit to what infringements are allowed by the following position held and presented by Olsen. The Second Amendment allows, "reasonable restrictions designed to prevent possession [of firearms] by unfit persons or to restrict the possession of types of firearms that are particularly suited to criminal misuse." All firearms are particularly suited for criminal misuse, as are many other things. The term unfit persons is vague and can include any and all folks not deemed by the govm't to be fit to possess and bear arms. It does not simply include felons, by virtue of law justified by attainder, and certified nutacases, it includes misdemeanors, and simple accusations.

Would it help if I sent you a copy of my husband's NRA membership, along with his wallet full of concealed carry permits, and my son's US Army ID card? HMMM? Personally, I do not shoot, but I am all for as many other people shooting as possible and I know how to vote.

You are not really this ignorant why would you say something like this?

Nice of you to keep such a civil tone. ::sarc tag in case you need it::

Don't bother posting back. If you can't be civil, you can just be dismissed.

Are you serious?

I'm very serious. At this point in the election cycle, no one thought Reagan had a chance in hades of being elected President. And yet he was.

By the way, that's just one example of when that kind of thing occurred. Lincoln is another instance. It happens. Conservatives shouldn't just throw up their hands at this stage of the game and say, "Oh, well, this guy is ahead now, so we might as well abandon our principles and support him in the primary."

In the general election, that is a different story. But not in a primary.

"Dean self destructed." Come on you know or should know that the decision was made by the liberal media at a meeting in NYC to bring Howie Zowie to earth.

"Carter WAS unknown in the NW." Not true he was Beloved by the NY Times LONG before he announced. "Maybe if you lived in the South you may heave known him." I lived in Chicago and remember his early efforts in Iowa and elsewhere. Carter was widely touted as symbolic of the "New" South. Because you were unaware doesn't mean everyone else was. "Ditto slick willie." Willie was widely known as an anti-war activist who won election. He was also widely known as a poon hound by the 80s.

Both dwarfed Hunter's name recognition.
